This is exactly my point. Posting responsible threads is part of being an
adult. If a message about something, like: Merry Chtristmas, is sent, I see
no point for people getting deleted from the bulletin board. Same goes for
virus'. I have been assured, though, that no virus' can get through this
venue.
Welcome to Team Grumman.

Glad to have you here Bob. We'll need to ask Matt how graphics works on
this list.

Thank you, Gary.
That sort of philosophy has kept Avsig going for years, and the Beech Owners
group seems to survive with the occasional off-topic message. IMHO, it adds
the glue on community to any online group. As far as restrictions go, no
personal attacks, racist or violent remarks, or spam is fine with me.
And thanks for the info on the viruses... I strongly believe that is part of
a list administrator's obligation to his or her subscribers.
best,
Cory

Bob, Gary, all,
To protect from viruses (and there is a LOT), I automatically filter out
all enclosure data that is posted to the List. This also serves to
regulate the amount of data the List can generate for its members. One
upon a time, some guy posted 20Mb worth of uncompressed photos to the
RV-List. This was then redistributed to the 1500 people on the List at the
time. That was 1500 x 20Mb worth of messages or 30G bytes worth of
traffic! A lot of the people dialing in with a modem weren't too happy
about waiting for a 20mb download either...
To remedy the situation, I wrote a cool web site called the
PhotoShare. Here people can share any kind of data they want with the List
- photos, spreadsheets, PDF, whatever - and its an easy reference that can
be checked back on anytime. So far, I've never deleted any of the
PhotoShares I've put up, so there's quite a library of cool stuff! All of
the data found on the Photoshare has been prescanned for viruses too,
making it an even better, safer option.
Submitting files to be added to the PhotoShare is as simple as emailing
them to the following email address:
pictures@matronics.com
About once a week - usually on Saturday - I go through all the Photoshares
I've received that week and generate the respective web sites. Its a
pseudo-manual process that take a bit of work, but the result is worth it,
or so a great many Listers have told me!
For complete information on posting your favroite photos or other data
files, have a look at the main PhotoShare website. You'll also find the
listing of all the previous PhotoShares. Oh, and when your PhotoShare has
been posted, an automatic message goes out to the respective List with the
details on the specific URL to access it. It's pretty cool.
Here's the URL for the main PhotoShare index along with the instructions on
posting your own PhotoShare:
http://www.matronics.com/photoshare
This URL can also always be found in the trailer appended to each message
posted to the List along with a number of other useful link such as the
archive search engine, list browser, and digest browser.
As the Administrator for the Matronics Email Lists, I would like to
co-welcome you along with Gary to the new TeamGrumman-List!!! I look
forward to the new discussions and making new friends!
Best regards,
Matt Dralle
