--> TeamGrumman-List message posted by: Aucountry@aol.com Well, last week was very busy. I finished resealing the wing tank on a Tiger. This is a Tiger with just 751 TT since new. I also did a lot of other thngs on this plane, but, resealing the left wing was the most time consuming. I rigged a Cheetah, repaired its tail tie-down, and replaced its cylinder baffles. I modified the baffles on a Tiger and did a lot of other little odds and ends. On Friday, Tammy, the boys and I, went fishing. We drove to Big Bear Lake and rented a pontoon boat. It was the first time I went fishing in 38 years. Tammy is a real fishergirl, so, if I go fishing, then she'll go to fly-ins. 'Course, I need a plane too. Anyway, I was the only one who caught a fish. A 14 inch rainbow trout! Today, we're going to put the new cowling on the Brian's 75 Tiger. With any luck, we'll do taxi tests and maybe fly it. I'm anxious. I've been working on this for 3 years. It's taken a year to fit the inlets. Wish me luck. Yesterday, I flew two Tigers. I had modified the rear baffles (the ones that wrap around the bottom of the cylinder head) on both=20#3 and #4 on both Tigers. One of the Tigers has my larger fiberglass exit ramps. On the Tiger without the larger exit ramps, Temps were down to 405-420 on climbout with an ambient temp of 98 and a relative humidity of 65% (extremely humid for the desert). The Tiger with the larger exit ramps was easily 20 degrees cooler. The mod to the metal baffles consists of cutting both baffles back about 1 inch to 1 1/4 inch and cutting the edge toward the outside on a 45 degree angle. Make sure ALL of the baffles UNDER the motor are tied together. Close all leaks. Make sure all of the baffles are sealing well. Note: on the hotter of the two Tigers, the baffles are adequate, they aren't great. Gary www.AuCountry.com Home of "Team Grumman" TeamGrumman-List@matronics.com http://www.matronics.com/subscribe

It sounds like that could just be the one remaining thing I need to do to get the HC Cheetah temps where they should be. Thanks, Bob Milligan

Subject: Cowling update 2 Good luck! Can't wait to see the pictures of the rhinoplasty, and hear how the temps faired. I'm still willing to work with you on more experimentation time. I certainly won't be availible to take it back until 15 August, and don't need a plane (really, any plane) until the 24th. After that trip through September 5th I will be flying CH-46s all over the southwest and won't likely need my plane. My other proposed time period would be from mid-October through the annual inspection (hopefully owner-assisted again), due in November. I'd like to see this project completed in time for me to buy one of your first cowls to replace mine, so let me know how I can help. -Brian -----Original Message----- From: Aucountry@aol.com [mailto:Aucountry@aol.com] Subject: TeamGrumman-List: Cowling update 2 Today, we're going to put the new cowling on the Brian's 75 Tiger. Is that true? The cowling is prepped to prime and sand out little imperfections. Then, I'm going to paint it. The guy doing the fiberglass work is going to West 'by-God' Virginia someimte during August through September so I won't be doing any changes to the cowling then. We'll work something out. The cowling looks good. Gary www.AuCountry.com Home of "Team Grumman" TeamGrumman-List@matronics.com http://www.matronics.com/subscribe
