Also, what's a good method for cleaning out the inside of the nose fork. I was thinking of trying to borrow a 25mm Chain Gun bore brush on base, but in case that doesn't materialize, any other techniques out there? I use a brake hone to clean out the inside of the strut socket and then lacquer thinner on a paper towel or rag. Once again, my old one works fine, just looks bad (probably original if the logbook is correct). I notice that although it has "Bendix" stamp on the top, it also has a "Facet" sticker on the side, and Spruce has Facet pumps advertised that say something to the effect of "for some Grummans". Is this the same pump? The AA-1B parts manual doesn't give the Facet part number--it has Bendix listed as the manufacturer. I've called John Cook (Fletchair) almost everyday this week about something, so I thought I'd give 'em a break for a day or two before I called back. Also, one more question about baffling. Me and the A&P are gonna make new baffling once the engine is back. I'm assuming there's a kit out there for an O-320, but I've not been able to find one in all the usual places (Spruce, Chief, etc). Fletchair says they have some pieces, but not everything. So, do you make this stuff from scratch or where can I find a kit? Gary, I know you powder coat yours--I'll probably try to do something like that. By the way, I appreciate all the help--I know I haven't responded to all the messages individually, but there will be a big thank you letter going out after she's all put back together. Steven Jackson N1434R L22 Yucca Valley, CA p.s. Shop called about the crankshaft today, asking whether or not there had ever been a prop strike. Seems the crank flange is run out 14/1000ths of an inch vs. the maximum 5/1000ths of an inch acceptable. I asked the guy what else could cause that kind of damage and he said "prop strike". Interesting--one more thing not in the book. And, it hasn't happened since the engine was put in the plane 250 hours ago. My A&P thinks it might have been an engine salvaged off an old Apache that landed gear up. ________________________________ Message 5 _____________________________________ Time: 10:23:50 PM PST US From: Gil Alexander Subject: Re: TeamGrumman-List: --> TeamGrumman-List message posted by: Gil Alexander Steve....
