If you can, widen out the crack(s) a little. Use a fair amount of rivets .... not just enough to hold the patch in place. Form the patch as best you can to fit without pushing on it. When you put the patch on, use the small tube of proseal from Aircraft Spruce (about $19 if I remember correctly) It's messy, but cleans up easily with MEK. When it's all done, clean up well with MEK and use 'light' bondo to fill the area you worked on. Then sand it down smooth and paint. >thx, >Tom >I did have the prop balanced at the great Reid Hillview prop balancing and >meat burning a month ago. It was really out of whack. They're usually skeptical before, but a believer after! I've never put the balancer on an airplane that didn't need improvement. >An interesting side note: The tail surfaces of the planes running at 2000 >rpm for the balancing were shaking and dancing all over the place. I put my Traumahawk in a deep stall and because of the excellent visibility, turned around and looked at the tail. It was REALLY moving around!!! I don't do that anymore!!! >Any ideas on sources for latches. Fletchair and Airmods NW don't have them. >Someone told me that the latches were a Piper part, but I haven't been able >to confirm that. > Take a look at a Traumahawk if you see one on the ramp. It has latches that are different: instead of having the locking button, they just go over-center .... and the top of the moveable part (handle) fits up under a lip on the lower cowl part to pull it down instead of the 'cup' of the Grumman. The latches take a lot of abuse ..... what's wrong with yours? Springs shot, loose, etc. I can probably sort them out as well. I would buy new ones if they existed. Mostly just to save some time. You can replace the spring (Ace Aircraft Supply :-D ) and tighten things up ..... clean up the screw threads etc. in a pinch. Don't know who made the latches, but they're probably a stock item somewhere ..... or used to be!!! It was just propogated by everyone's reply to the particulary thread. Early on, I had the new spam filter box tagging messages it wasn't sure about with "[QT]" and sent to a special email box. I caught a couple of TeamGrumman messages and when I reforwarded them to the list, I forgot to strip the [QT] part off. The new SPAM blocker is working really well, btw. Out of 3387 Messages, its flagged 2258 as SPAM! I've been watching the stats pretty close and with a little tweaking on the configuration, it looks like no real messages have been mis-caught. On the flip side, there have been very few actul SPAMs that haven't been caught - maybe 3 or 4 out of the number listed above. Pretty cool! Initially, I had configured the MX records for Matronics to prefer the new SPAM filter and then listed a direct connection to the Matornics email system as a secondary backup. Seems that the spammers are onto that trick and will actually use the secondary MX host knowing that people put their spam filters on the primary MX, but not on their secondary! As of a few minutes ago, all mail must go through the spam appliance and I have disabled direct inbound email to the matronics email server. More statistics as they become available! :-) Matt Dralle >-------------- >--> TeamGrumman-List message posted by: Aucountry@aol.com > >Matt, what purpose does the QT serve? >-------------- -- Matt G.
