My cheetah was converted to 180 hp 0360a4k under a STC
the center spar was changed to the Tiger spar for the additional 200 lb grosse
weight Does this mean I can change the regerestion and data plate to a AA5B Tiger?

NO!
In order to do that, you would have to have another FAA inspection to
determine that the aircraft is completely in conformity with the AA-5B type
design, and then make any necessary additional alterations (what those might
be I don't know, but the FAA will ask the question) to accomplish that. You
can do that if you want, but given the time, trouble, and possible expense
involved, I can't see why you'd want to. You've got a plane that gives you
everything a Tiger would, so why go further? There's no additional gain to
be had. That may be why every AA-5A with a Tiger engine and spar I've seen
still has the AA-5A designation on the data plate.

Gang/TG,
During teardown of the firewall accessories, my A&P questioned the necessity
of keeping the small plate (that connected the hobbs, dome light, and clock
fuses to the battery) on the firewall, and just re-wiring it so the plate
can come off the firewall. I have the O-320 conversion, with my battery
located aft, so there is no advantage to the placement of the wires/fuses
there that we can see. I don't have the hobbs meter anymore
either--although the plane came equipped with one. Would it be legal (with
no field approval necessary) to rewire the fuses in line with the wires that
connect to the battery cable without having them stop at the plate position,
i.e. could the wires just run straight into the cabin with the fuses
connected inside or outside of the firewall. Also, can I just forget the
wire for the hobbs since I don't have one anymore? The old hobbs wire was
still connected to the battery cable, but was cut after the fuse and sealed
with electrical tape. My idea is to just have the fuses connect somewhere
outside the firewall (for ease of changing them) and running the wires into
the firewall with the rest of the wire bundle. Just trying to clean up the
firewall a little...
Any comments?

Do you really want to pay higher taxes and insurance?

Steve, the way to go for this, to simplify the wiring, is to wire the cabin
and map lights to a circuit breaker on the main bus through the master switch.
Locate the switches, mini-toggle switches is what I use, on the instuemtn
panel. Check out the picture of the AA1C instruemtn panel i sent to you. =20
I
did send a picture didn't I? Then get one of the super clocks with a 5 yr
battery. They are even back lighted.

OK, just so I understand this. I see from the picture that there are added
circuit breakers at the bottom of the avionics stack and a switch (avionics
master perhaps?) Then, there are two extra switches on the panel between
the avionics and the instruments. So the map light is one of these switches
and its controlled by the master? I think I can swing that. I'll have to
add circuit breakers for the Horizon tach and the EDM anyway right?
