My first concern will be to lessen the chance of corrosion. To do that the metal should be cleaned, then painted, and then sealed with the RTV. RTV does stick very well to paint so that will also keep out the moisture. It is for sealing fireplace chimneys, etc. It is a high temperature (fire proof) intumescent caulk. Intumescent meaning it expands. When subjected to high heat it swells to fill any voids and provide additional sealing. In our experimental Pulsar builders group we have a Boeing Rocket Engineer that was familiar with the product and recommended it. At that time it was only available in large quantitiies but recently I found it at Home Depot. If you are interested I will look at the tube next time I'm at the hanger and get the maker from the label. If anyone could supply a check list for a Tiger pre-purchase inspection, or a list that is typically used during the annual, it would be most appreciated. Also, we need a recommendation for an experienced Grumman A&P in the Orlando, FL or Jacksonville, FL areas. Our plan is to mask the sealant with grease for the paint job, then take the grease off. We used PRC, which my A&P had on hand. He used to use it on the airliners down at Palm Springs for windows, fuel tanks, etc. He said its oil proof, fuel proof, and once cured, has really good longevity. I taped off around the brackets and then pulled the tape after applying the stuff. Looks pretty sharp.
