They're needs clearly don't warrant the extra expense then. I would assume that someone eyeing a Cirrus or Bonanza or 210 would be doing so because they could afford it and either required the additional capabilities of such an aircraft or were willing to spend the money on it regardless of need. It sounds like the folks you are speaking with don't have a thorough understanding of the actual cost/performance delta of these planes relative to their needs. I'm a pretty low time pilot and have owned my Tiger, my first airplane, for less than a year. I'm certainly guilty of thinking about things through rose-colored glassed from time to time. I suppose most of us do this or we wouldn't be able to justify what we spend on our hobby:) Jamey -----Original Message----- From: owner-teamgrumman-list-server@matronics.com [mailto:owner-teamgrumman-list-server@matronics.com]On Behalf Of ThomasTholmes512@aol.com Subject: Re: TeamGrumman-List: Tiger, LoPresti nose bowl update --> TeamGrumman-List message posted by: ThomasTholmes512@aol.com Jamey, It's a matter of mission I believe. Two of these folks fly almost every day to manage their businesses. Couple hundred miles, each way max. The difference in time with the Tiger compared to any of the others is minuscule, while the cost of an annual will be at least two to one and the going price for new/newish ones varies by as much as $200K. You have to have a really big ego need to stand that kind of hit! ;-) Of course I fly a 150hp Yankee and an Aeronca! I think Greg Amy put best when he said he's got the LoPresti cowl because it looks good, and does not have a PowerFlow exhaust because it doesn't. Most of us are influenced to some or even a great extent in our aviation purchases by their sex appeal. My friend has a Cirrus SR22 and it's beautiful and apparently flies great (though he laments to some degree the lack of snappiness relative to his old Navion). Honestly I hope to upgrade from my Grumman some day if my flying profile justifies it and my pocket book allows for it and I'd probably seriously consider planes like the SR22 and upcoming Diamond TwinStar. One other thing I overlooked in my statement is that even short hops of a couple of hundred miles, if done frequently in IMC, might favor a plane like the Cirrus with it's advanced avionics over a more basically equipped Grumman. There are lots of variables and lots of emotions:) Jamey -----Original Message----- From: owner-teamgrumman-list-server@matronics.com [mailto:owner-teamgrumman-list-server@matronics.com]On Behalf Of Ron Levy Subject: RE: TeamGrumman-List: Tiger, LoPresti nose bowl update --> TeamGrumman-List message posted by: Ron Levy From: James Courtney --> TeamGrumman-List message posted by: "James Courtney" >They're needs clearly don't warrant the extra expense then.
