I'm doing some work on a 76 Tiger.   

The carpets are soaked with oil, so I take them out.   The Marker Beacon 
antenna coax is draped OVER the control cables under the console, then run under

the pilots side plastic console side panel and under the carpet to the rear 
heal kick panel, taped to the rear bulkhead under the seat with scotch tape, up

over the flap torque tubes, wire tied to the flap motor, then run through one 
of the holes to the antenna.   Very professional installation... 

The screws holding down the rear console were rusted in place.   I had to cut 
them out with a Dremel.

The ADF had been removed, well, the ADF unit and the antenna had been 
removed, the cable is/was still there.   Ditto the DME.

The wires to the 12 to 24 volt DC to DC converter were run under the right 
side panel - under the screws attaching the side panel to the plane.   Just 
lucky the wires weren't cut.

Inside the empenneage (spelling?), there was many years stuff.   Lots and 
lots of insulation, bugs and two wasps nests.   Hundreds of dead wasps lying in

the oil.   

The control cables have NEVER been adjusted, they still have the original 
pins in the original paint in the turn buckles. 

Bet the original owner bragged he never spent much on annuals.

The new owner will end up paying for his lack of paying.

I was talking to the avionics guy and learned something interesting.

An ADF, which is very involved to install and very sensitive to engine noise 
and all sorts of other noise problems, can be installed by anyone on a logbook

entry.

and

A GPS, which requires power and ground and an antenna with a view of the sky, 
requires a field approval.

So, is there any doubt in your mind that the FAA is really here to help?

And a windshield installation requires an STC.   

And an aircraft battery is NOT an aircraft battery unless your aircraft 
happens to be on the right list even though a plane made under the same type 
certificate with a different model number uses that particular battery.

Go figure.
