I bought a Yankee that had both VOR antenna cables crushed where they go into
the wing. The left side was completely severed. The previous owner shot VOR
approaches on a regular basis. Hmmm. He also had a Garmin III mounted on
the console. I wonder which he used??

I thought the VOR cables went to the tail on the two place like they do on
the 4 place.

Gang,
What is the proper replacement fuel pump for the old Bendix fuel pumps that
were OE on Grummans? The Facet Pumps look exactly the same, with an
identical part number, but are listed as "automotive" fuel pumps and "not
recommended for aviation use". I compared my old one to the one's Spruce
has yesterday at Corona--they look identical.

My VOR antennas are buried in the wing tips. They actually work now. Garmin
300, KX155 w/GS, Garmin 327 xpdr, Century I. It is an interesting instrument
platform. I'm going to get the servo excersizer from Fletchair when I get
home. The autopilot will

# A GPS, which requires power and ground and an antenna with a view
# of the sky, requires a field approval.
There's a little more to it than that. GPS signals are extremely low power,
and proper shielding is important. This is mainly because panel-mount GPS
are located so close to the oscillators in other panel-mount equipment.
It's still not enough to warrant a field approval - conscientious
installation by a competent shop should do.
But there have been more than enough nightmare stories about troublesome GPS
installations.
Agreed about the bureaucracy, though.
- GPS approach can't be approved unless the whole approach is programmed.
That is, pilot can't sequence himself though the waypoints; the
computer must do it.
- Then, the same TSO forbids the program to sequence into the missed
approach proc. As you say, go figure. Do we need any more workload
at the time of a missed approach?
