I thought the rpm was limited to 2500 rpm max. In one part, it says to leave the switch in Auto, in the other, it say you need to have the green light on for take-off. With the switch in Auto, it only goes to 2500 rpm, which, really, is a lot better than we have now with a climb prop. With the switch in manual and the blades adjusted to fine pitch so the green light comes on, YOU, the pilot, control the rpm with the throttle. My guess is, having gone through the installation guide about a million times, the 2500 rpm is for noise limits in Europe. MT makes controllers that have 3000 rpm operating limits. They also make controllers with 2700 rpm limits. I'll let you know what I think. I'm about to go fly it for the first time... Bye. ________________________________ Message 3 _____________________________________ Time: 10:56:18 AM PST US From: "flyv35b" Subject: Re: TeamGrumman-List: Bitchin' --> TeamGrumman-List message posted by: "flyv35b" I'm anxious to hear about it. ----- Original Message ----- From: Subject: Re: TeamGrumman-List: Bitchin' > --> TeamGrumman-List message posted by: TeamGrumman@aol.com > > > In a message dated 12/23/03 07:14:24 AM, flyv35b@juno.com writes: > > > > Great.=A0 I thought the rpm was limited to 2500 rpm max. > > > > Cliff > > > > Well, the instructions are a bit ambiguous. I am looking forward to getting a new panel face installed and some instrument lighting. Bill Kelly mentioned that he enjoys the Ultravisions for illuminating his check lists and charts but needs additional lighting on his instruments. Also with his light colored panel there is much more reflected light that I don't have. Looking forward to your opinion of the MT prop after flying it. I've called the ISP and they are looking into the problem and may do intrusive testing on the line at some point this afternoon/evening. For the most part, things seem to be working right now, but the line will drop out every once in a while for 2 to 3 minutes. This problem will effect connections to the Matronics Web server as well as distribution of List mail. I will post a follow up when the problem has been resolved... Hopefully later today. I talked him into the UltraVision lighting. He now feels he has the best possible lighting for his plane. He uses the UltraVision lighting to light his panel so he can see where switches, circuit breakers, etc, are. ________________________________ Message 7 _____________________________________ Time: 06:34:45 PM PST US From: TeamGrumman@aol.com Subject: TeamGrumman-List: MT Prop first flight --> TeamGrumman-List message posted by: TeamGrumman@aol.com Well, it was interesting. The first operational instruction said to take-off with the controller in Manual with the green light on, indicating that the prop is in low pitch. OK, so, I did that. Wow, the tach went first to 2500 and then increased quickly to 2700 rpm. I had to pull the throttle back to keep the tach in the green. Manifold pressure was 25 inches Hg. On climb-out, I pulled the throttle back to 2500 RPM, and switched the controller to Auto. At that condition, the MP was 21. I throttled up to 25 inches and climbed out at 1000 fpm. I leveled off at 4000 feet and accelerated to 125 indicated (134 true). For the next hour or so, I flew between 5000 and 7000 feet and played with the prop and throttle and mixture. Flat out at 7000 feet the best I could do was 132 indicated (137 true). At this condition the engine was turning 2500 rpm. OAT was 34F. This is WITH a PowerFlow. Now, like I said, I was playing with the various variables. At 5500 feet, 2200 RPM, 20 inches Hg, and 108 knots, I was getting a fuel flow of 7.5 gallons per hour. At 23 inches, 2250 rpm. and 115 knots, I was getting 8.5 gph. I went back and did touch-and-goes and tried various settings on the controller and throttle. In reality, the controller can be left in Auto and 2500 rpm and it will take-off and land quite nicely. Only time will tell. Gary
