Bad blade aerodynamics, perhaps? Gary, if you cut one of the blades perpendicular to its axis, you'd probably see something similar to a Clark Y airfoil. If you do this to the Sensenich 76 EM prop, you'll see a Rose E (for Henry Rose, the designer) airfoil. The Rose E is much more efficient. I know that MT is working on more efficient airfoil sections, as evidenced by the new scimitar blades being used on a Mooney conversion. Perhaps those will be mated with the electric hub and approved for Grummans. If that doesn't pan out, there is a chance that Aerocomposites will get FAA approval on their composite props (www.aerocomposites.com). Unfortunately, they don't have an electrically operated pitch mechanism. It's going to require a complete engine mod to adapt the Aerocomposite prop to a Grumman. Maybe they are going for the sex sells approach.
