--> TeamGrumman-List message posted by: "jeff" <jskitte1@midsouth.rr.com>
While warming up my cheetah yesterday I noticed oil seeping onto the co pilots
carpet. Immediately shut it down and starting investigating. Found the oil
line to the oil pressure gauge was rubbed at the right defroster hose and leaking.
Upon inspection found the line has a section approx 1 inch wide that
was corroded/pitted.
Looks like a 1/4" aluminum line with fittings. Is there anything else I need
to know? Any other info would be great.
Safe flights
Jeff

jeff, get the service bulletin from Fletch Air website. Covers what you need to
do.

Any A&P that has tube flairing tools can make up a new tube. It is easy to
do in a few minutes if Fletchair doesn't have one.

sorry Jeff,
The Service bulletin is SB 188. Fletch used to keep it on the website.
Like Cliff said get your A&P to make a new line. Also look at the fuel lines while
you are there.
Best thing is to replace the gages with Mitchell gages. Gets rid of hard lines
in the cockpit.

I think you have it nailed. This is a typical bad spot. The routing of
the defroster hose and oil under pressure in the cabin is not a great design.
Replace the aluminum tubing (a good time to remove the switch for the Hobbs
meter) and you'll be fine.

thanks for the reply. Yea I can make a new line, that's not the problem. I
just wanted more info on what kind of line (aluminum, 2024? 6061? don't
know).
Also, the Mitchell electric gauges. Where can I find more info. I hate
mechanical gauges due to the plumbing and the stock gauges are hard to read.
I've found them on the web but was wondering what kind of paper work is
involved. Really like the UMA small round gauges. Looks more "modern/jet".
Thanks
Jeff

Jeff,
Mitchell gauges are shown in the Aircraft Spruce catalog. There is one
style which is approved for Grummans and another which is not.
I intend to change mine out, too.
