Qmail-Scrubber-Version: 1.00 --> TeamGrumman-List message posted by: "David Feinstein" <david@carneyaviation.com> # You and a lot of other people that travel on business are finding # out that travel by GA aircraft is maybe a good way to go. And # this is driving a lot of new aircraft sales. Actually, I always knew. The purpose of the trip is to help a friend bring home a Tiger he just bought. Because of lousy weather in the Northeast and an electrical problem that took a couple of hours to fix, we're still en route. Almost 500 miles to go, should work out today.

When I was a Rocket Scientist, back in the old days, I had contracts in Carson City, Reno, Salt Lake City, Sacramento, Catalina Island (off the coast, 26 miles from LA), Las Vegas, Palo Alto, Monterey, San Diego, Irvine (SoCal), UCLA, and USC. These were all within 500 miles of Lancaster (WJF, Fox Field). I also had contracts in State College (Penn State), PA, University of Illinois, Urbana-Champagne, University of Dayton (Ohio) Research Institute, Boston, Lowell, MA, West Palm Beach. FL, Connecticutt, .... Bottom line was, if the trip was over 100 miles but under 500 miles, I flew my plane. I made a LOT of flights within CA and NV in my plane while at work. It was cheaper for both me and the government. And, I got to fly on their dime. USC, and UCLA were driving distance. Beyond SLC, it was quicker to fly commercial. Now, if I had had a Lancair 4P or Legacy, it would have been quicker all the way across the US. The Lancair Legacy is still looking good to me. Gary

--> TeamGrumman-List message posted by: "Walt Beaulieu" <aviation@acs-group.net> The farther you go, the more the plane made sense vs a car and the more side trips you make the plane makes more sense. I beat the hell out of a car trip from Dallas to Laredo with the plane. I can do round trip AND work. The shorter trips... IE DFW to AUstin are the one where the car beats you. IE Get in Car at 1PM Get out of car at 4:30 PM in North Austin at the hotel. Plane. Get in car at 1 PM. Drive 30 minutes to airport. 15 minutes to buy gas. 30 to fuel plane and preflight. It is now 02:15. Start engine. Warmup, runup. 02:30 break ground. 04:00 touch down. 04:15 finish dealing with FBO and leave with rent car. 04:45 Drive BACK north 30 minutes to Hotel. NOw the difference is only 15 minutes but this has happened to me twice going to different places. I did race a car to New Orleans once, I flew there, Picked up my passenger and ate lunch. Flew back to Dallas before the other guy had arrived at his hotel in New Orleans. -----Original Message----- From: owner-teamgrumman-list-server@matronics.com [mailto:owner-teamgrumman-list-server@matronics.com]On Behalf Of TeamGrumman@aol.com Subject: Re: TeamGrumman-List: Life in the friendly skies --> TeamGrumman-List message posted by: TeamGrumman@aol.com In a message dated 04/02/04 04:11:17 PM, aviation@acs-group.net writes: > > Sadly, On the short runs, Driving appears to be even faster than either > commercial or low speed aircraft..
