The references to "Vertical" and "Horizontal" refer to the orientation of the =shield= around the lamp to control its light dispersion, which relates to whether the two mounting ears of the taillight are "up and down" (vertical) or "side-by-side" which of course is "horizontal". The A500, replacing the original white tailight, is mounted facing =rearward=, not atop the rudder... and it does a GREAT job ! A500-14(H or V) and A500-28(H or V) for 14- or 28-v. respectively, which refers to the special taillight bulb included.
