Three weeks after I got my plane back from a very expensive paint job, my
left aileron was damaged by a rolling cart one of my ramp-neighbors failed
to secure during strong winds. There was a sharp strike to the aileron's
trailing edge and a scrape down the edge toward the fuselage (about 18 in).
I took the plane back to the paint shop, and they used pliers to squeeze the
aileron back into shape (without breaking the skin), and then bondo'd and
primed/painted the aileron. Took a couple hours at most (aside from waiting
for things to dry), and it's impossible to find the repair today. Maybe in
a couple of years it will pop out, but who knows, maybe it won't.
Not sure how bad the damage is, but maybe worth trying to repair - you can
always go spend $2000 for a new aileron if you don't like the way the repair
worked.
