Subject: Engine Cowling Alignment Question for AA5B
--> TeamGrumman-List message posted by: NewmanRic@aol.com I have a 78 AA5B with 2000 total hours on it. I sent the engine out for an overhaul at Mattituck. The engine was reinstalled with new Lord mounts. Prior to the overhaul the prop spinner was perfectly aligned with the circular opening in the nosebowl. After the newly overhauled engine was installed the prop spinner is about .3 inches too high and .3 to .4 inches to the right of center when viewed from behind the prop. While I understand how new mounts could make it higher, as the old lower mounts may have been compressed over 25 years, I am bewildered how the thing could be so far off center? Comments welcome... and suggested fixes welcome. RIchard Newman 28859 1978 AA5B

--> TeamGrumman-List message posted by: Scott Saylor <scott@thesaylors.net> I had the same issue after my overhauland I'm sorry I accepted the plane back in that condition. It is corrected by shimming the engine. It's not an exact science so be prepared to spend some time (or money). There have been a couple good articles in the Star regarding this overthe last year or so.
