Well, here is the latest.
I have rented a hangar in Grass Valley, CA. There is a hangar there that is
for sale and I'm looking into buyng it.
For those who have kept up with the saga, the move to Auburn ... well,
everything I'd heard about the airport manager is true.
In August 2002, I contacted the airport manager in Auburn about relocating my
business to Auburn. I was told that by Sept 2003, there would be a whole
bunch of new hangars and places for my business at Auburn because they were
lengthening the runway to the East and adding hangars. If you've been there,
you'll see where they've moved an entire mountain to make room for more hangars
and business'.
In Sept 2003 I was told tht because of higher than normal rain falls in
Auburn, they have not made the progress that they thought they would and that the
hangars would be ready in April 2004.
In April 2004, I was given a song-and-dance about how they couldn't get
enough money to finish the project so they were looking for investors. The
airport manager added that they were in a court battle with the guy, Dennis Denham,
who owned the land adjacent to the airport on the Southeast corner of the
airport. That battle was to claim imminent domain over that property since it
had hangars and really should be a part of the airport. He also told me that
a
body shop which had been using a hangar on the farthest corner of the airport
would have to be an airport business so they, the airport manager and his
cronies, would be evicting them and I would be able to move my business into that
hangar. I asked if he needed anything from me and he siad a letter of
intent was all that was needed.
I wrote him a letter of intent and included that I would be willing to
landscape the area and pay for a years rent in advance. He seemed agreeable to
the
letter I sent.
In July 2004, I was told that he would be evicting them in 60-90 days. In
Sept 2004, I was told he (the airport manager) was working with his attorneys
to get a legal process for evicting the body shop. I was told in Oct 2004
that the eviction was proceeding and that the hangar would be available the 15-20
of December 2004.
I made plans accordingly.
On December 1st, my friend, Scott (he likes to be called Buzz. He works at
the Ford dealership in Auburn), was delivering a new Harley-Davidson Ford
pickup to a guy who told him about his son needing to move his auto body shop
business from a hangar at the Auburn airport because it was not an aviation
business. Cool, looks like things are proceeding well. I told Buzz to take
the
deposit money and the first months rent to the airport manager and get a
contract for the hangar. I hadn't heard from the airport manager and wanted to
get
the ball rolling.
Two days later, Friday, 3 Dec, Buzz told me I needed to call the airport
manager, Jerry Martin, and find out if the hangar was really going to be ready.
Jerry had told him that the body shop was going to stay there. Jerry also
told Buzz that he was going to call me. He didn't. I called Jerry and didn't
get an answer. I told him to call me back immediately because I'd made
plans to move. Jerry called me on Monday and told me a really sad story about
how the body shop really needed to stay there and that I would need to find
another hangar. He'd help me.
I flew to Auburn on Tuesday (7 Dec) and met Buzz. We drove to Grass Valley
and I found a hangar into which I can move. It isn't a big hangar, but, it's
a hangar. I got the keys on the 10th. I'm packing and getting ready to
move. I'm also finishing the annuals on 3 planes!
There is a really bitchin' 50x80 hangar for sale in Grass Valley. If I can
qualify and or get a small business loan, I'm going to try and buy it. So,
Team, I'm moving to Grass Valley in a couple of weeks. Besides, Grass Valley
and I have the same initials.

I agree. This list server doesn't have near the volume of needed and
pertinent information that the Grumman Gang list server has, but it's the
only choice left for those of us that were banished by the dickhead that
runs the other one.
I filed many, many complaints concerning Mark, to the point that I told the
AYA they could blow it out their ass until he's put in check for his
abusive behavior. I know that the Grumman Gang server isn't a part of AYA,
but it indirectly represents the community. Unfortunately, we have a bad
apple at the top of the barrel.
Unless there's a migration or a cross-post arrangement, some of us are left
in the void and unable to get answers to our queries (especially the AA-1x
owners).
Sorry for the bitterness. But I'm bitter.

Congratulations Gary, dealing with small towns is tough since there can be a lot
of local politics and dumb ass people.
Did you know that Grass Valley airport was built by Litton of Litton Industries
so he could run his electronics / aerospace business and enjoy living in the
mountains while commuting by air. I think there are still vestiges of his company
there and some well paid techno type in habitats that love airplanes.

body shop which had been using a hangar on the farthest corner of the airport
would have to be an airport business so they, the airport manager and his
cronies, would be evicting them and I would be able to move my business into
that
hangar. I asked if he needed anything from me and he siad a letter of
intent was all that was needed.
I wrote him a letter of intent and included that I would be willing to
landscape the area and pay for a years rent in advance. He seemed agreeable
to the
letter I sent.
In July 2004, I was told that he would be evicting them in 60-90 days. In

One of the locals told me that a lot of Silcon Valley folks have migrated to
GV. I understand that Sony has an asembly plant near there. or so I've
been told. Keep your fingers crossed that I can get the SBA loan.

Hi Brad, I understand your bitterness. There is a lot of traffic on GG but,
let's be honest, most of it is senseless bullshit. Hell, I've seen 20 email
exchanges on how far to leave the canopy open in-flight.
This list is for real concerns and interactions with regular guys, not for
the multitude of idiots. Ron Levy got off this list because Matt asked for
contibutions to keep the list going. When I asked if he also protested the DNC,
RNC or the NRA or the Salvation Army when they asked for contributions to
keep their organizations operational, he wouldn't respond and quit the list.
Thinking back, it wasn't a big loss.
I welcome your inputs and any suggestions you might have. Feel free to copy
and paste a worthwhile GG post and if anyone here has an opinion, I'm sure
they'll respond. Cliff Hanson was on here for a while and had some good input.
I think Bob Stewart monitors the list.
This list is just over a year old. It's lasted this long. I see no reason
why it won't keep growing.
By-the-way, I've seen numerous post to GG which would have been grounds for
banishment without any apparent action from Herr Furor. My suspicion is that
he's lightened up since the creation of TeamGrumman-List. This is good.

It's actually Nevada County. I'd love to buy in Alta Sierra but the folks
who run the home owners association and more dictatorial than Saddam.
