Very dependable, and hell, with the T-300 timing tool (I bought my own), I can even adjust the timing of the system. I have no clue what Bill Scott is talking about, unless he had a defective unit. It does work differently than conventional mags, and it will raise CHT due to more complete burning. Don't get me wrong, Bill Scott and company are a huge positive for the Grumman community, but I get the impression if it doesn't EXCACTLY match his idea of what the factory should have done, it is wrong. The ECI Titan Cylinder debate is a case in point. He will publicly state that all ECI cylinders are junk. Yet when he got a set of the new Titans, he had to do less work on them than the stock Lycs he professes are the ONLY cylinders that should be on a Grumman motor. He also seriously dislikes the Powerflow Exhaust (for other than aesthetic reasons.) I have never met the man, but by reputation, he builds some of the finest motors in the land (I had seen Ron Levy's Cheetah rebuild.) But I am convinced he would probably go into cardiac arrest if he dug into all the things Dave Fletcher and his crew have done to improve performance. I spoke with Dave at OSH about alternative cams and so forth, things that I suspect would have Bill crying 'infidel' based upon his email traffic. I can COMPLETELY understand his position, however. Aviation is expensive, and mistakes just cost too damn much. How would you like to have installed AeroAdvantage dual vacuum pumps only to have the company yank them with no real word on ability to rebuild in the future? I guess I am still young enough to get excited about new ideas and new technology! (I thought the AA dual pump was a fantastic idea, and was ready to install at overhaul.) My 2 cents.
