--> TeamGrumman-List message posted by: FLYaDIVE@aol.com Hey Gary: Guess what! I just installed a Ziftronics AC in a C-172. YES, I said AC. As in Alternator Controller. The STC called it an AC, first time I have seen this nomenclature ... Well, not really the first, you called it an AC and I had never heard of that terminology before. Except for Air Conditioning and Alternating Current. What can I say ... Live and learn and keep an open mind. Thanks for the lesson. Barry "Chop'd Liver"

    Subject: Aileron plugs
--> TeamGrumman-List message posted by: "James Courtney" <jamey@jamescourtney.net> I don't know what to call these (okay I haven't looked in the parts manual either) but those little 3/4" round metal plugs on the top surface of both ends of the aileron directly over the pivot. At any rate. There are some up by the front cowl too. Sometimes these little guys get loose and one of them is actually showing some rust color around it. I've seen plastic or rubber equivalent parts (not on a Grumman but in other applications the specifics of which I forget). These appear to seal more tightly and securly in the applications in my mind's eye and clearly cannot corrode. Could these be employed on my Tiger if I could find them or is this considered a modification in the eyes of the FAA (yes, I know I'm lucky they don't consider waxing a modification)? Does this sound like a reasonable thing to consider doing or am I missing something? Does anyone know where to find such plugs? I'd attach a picture if it helped clarify what I'm asking but I know the mailing lists don't like that. Thanks for the help! Jamey AA5B N72T @ KSQL

Hole plug. Wheel Farings, ect .. --> TeamGrumman-List message posted by: TeamGrumman@aol.com I'm doing an annual on an AG5B Tiger. THe combination of a one piece lower cowling, the location of the air box, and the exhaust pipe, make this one of the most user (maintenance) UN-friendly designs I've seen in a long time. I installed a Power Flow (the short stack) on Vi Bui's plane. We elected to cut out the piece of cooling air exit ramp all the way to the edge of the cowling, metal and all. I added a nut plate and drilled the cowling to hold the last 3 inches on one side of the cut-out. THe other nut plate is in aboout thee right spot. Anyway, no need to remove anything to get the cowling off and on now. I was thinking, the AG5B cowling would be a LOT easier to R&R with the short Power Flow and the cut-out to the edge. Is there any interest in replacing the nose gear boot with a fiberglass fairing that you don't need to remove to remove the cowling? And, if yes, would you like the little boat-tail fairing that I've made the fits behind the nose gear strut torque tube (where it attaches to the nose gear strut.)? For those of you who are getting the short stack Power Flow, My composit guy is making a fiberglass plug to fill the hole. All you will need to do s pop rivet it in place. I finally got all the hardware together to start finishing the new fiberglass wheel pants. More later. I submitted a WHOLE LOT of paperwork to my DER and DAR. Keep your fingers crossed. Oh, and Ned, and all those others who want to install their own new "Jaguar" cowling, GOOD NEWS.... REALLY GOOD NEWS.... My DER told me I'm over-working the whole installation issue. All I need to do is put in the instructions how to trim the upper cowling, install the hinges, fit the cowling, cut the baffles, and make everything fit together. I don't have to do any of the installation. He did tell me that I might need to get used to answering the questions on installation concerns. So, Ned, and (I can't remember the name), the cowling can be sent to you in kit form. And, Ned, since you wanted a cowling for your 6-cylinder Grumman, I can supply the pieces 2 to 3 inches longer and you can trim from there. Gary Gary

    Subject: Cabin heat knob
--> TeamGrumman-List message posted by: "James Courtney" <jamey@jamescourtney.net> Is there an upgraded cabin heat knob assembly that can be used for a Tiger? My knob likes to sneak out 1/4" and produce warmer air in the cabin. In the winter this is no problem but in summer it's annoying. Is there a twist-lock type knob or something one could use? Thanks for the advice in advance! Jamey AA5B N72T @ KSQL
