This sounds very much like an accusation about the quality of work that I do! First off, I have never installed an automotive air filter or a non approved aircraft filter in any plane I have worked on. I seriously doubt if this is the same filter that I installed anyway. As a general rule I replace the air filter every year or every 100 hrs if that comes first and have never found a Brackett foam filter that had the foam deteriorated in any way. Gary, you might be so kind as to let me know specifically what aircraft it is that you are talking about. > The owner had done the last oil change. The fuel flow transducer was > mounted wrong. The prop was installed wrong. The plane is filthy. > There is > oil and dirt everywhere. Is there a correct side to route the fuel to the HA-6 carburetor on a Tiger? I think not. The inlet port is designed such that fuel can enter either side and then flow through the inlet screen. As it was plumbed from the factory the hose entered the LH side and a plug was inserted on the RH side. But this can be reversed and fuel can be routed from the pump through the flow transducer mounted beneath the carburetor and then out and up to the RH side. > The owners don't appear to care what kind of maintenance and attention > this > plane is given as long as it's cheap. The owners, all three of them, > don't > appear to be too concerned for their safety. Who signed off on the last annual inspection? This doesn't sound like an airplane that I worked on. Sounds like it has had little or no maintenance for quite awhile or incorrect owner performed work.

I put one in and saw slightly increased performance. It's good for several years and cleanings, and when it wears out can be replaced with the off the shelf K&N of propper size. -Brian N119ST

I said the last filter was changed by you. You haven't done an annual on it since then. As for=20the auto filter, I never even implied that you worked on it.

It was a paper element filter, not the same as the K& N. Someone had to really research the size to find one that fit. The only car that filter comes on (or fits) is a slant six Plymouth/Dodge.

Here's what you said: "Today. I took out an air filter that was decomposing. Pieces of the foam element were plastered against the screen on the inlet to the carb. I can only inagine the pieces that got but the screen. According to the logs, Cliff Hanson installed it in 2001." Don't know what your definition of the word "it" is, but one would assume that "it" refers to the decomposing filter you removed - that I installed in 2001.

Cliff, the work you do is great. Those that did work after you, work that is sub-par, DOES NOT REFLECT ON YOU IN THE LEAST. Hell, for all anyone knows, it hasn't had anything more than a paper annual since you looked at it. What we do know is, the foam element filter will not last 4 years and 700 hours. Lighten up, Cliff. Go eat some chocolate.
