I just finished repairing the location where the flap torque tube bearing
bracket attaches (say that 5 times) on a Tiger. I swear these parts went in
BEFORE the plane was made. Anyway, the 2 bolts where the bracket attaches
through the fuselage had been pulled completely through the honeycomb. The
bracket itself was torn to all but maybe 1/8 inch. The bulkhead where it attaches
under the seat was torn about 2 inches.
After I got it back together, I measured the flap up and down limits. The
up limit, with a load on the flap, is +1/2 degree. It sits at about -1/2
degree static. The down limit, static, is near 49 degrees. 48 1/2 or there
abouts. With a load, it almost meets the maximum of 47 degrees down.
Is there a "good" way to set the down limit? I'm sure it contributed to the
failure in this area. Of course, the owner stepping on the flap hard enough
to permanently force it down and then pulling it back into position probably
didn't help.
Gary
