What is this cowling hole you are talking about? Did I miss a post, or it

I find this list gives me posts like this quite frequently. It's like they
fly-in out of a wormhole somewhere with no idea what it is refering to. My
guess is it's being sent to the list inadvertantly by Gary.

I was hoping that would get something going on TeamGrumman.

I installed the short stack PowerFlow on Vi's plane. To close out the hole
where the stock pipe fit through, I had Dave make tooling for the hole. It
turned out to be a hell of a lot of work. First, he had to make a mold of the

inside of my cowling, then shape it to the contour of the cowling, then, make
a piece that fit over the outside, then, make and inside piece thta had the
correct contour, then, make a male out of that, then make the female.

When done, I'll have a plug to fill the hole in the cowling so everyone can
install the new Short Stack PowerFlow and have something to fill the hole.

Also, I'm making a fairing to go behind the short stack that should add up to
      20 knots!.

if you want a set of drilled yokes, I have a set of yokes that are drilled
and powder coated in black wrinkle. Both are drilled. These yokes came off

of a plane in exchange for a set of drilled yokes I had at the time. These
yokes are nice except that at one time, they had a PTT installed on the hub.

There are two tiny holes in the hub area that held a flat plate to which the
PTT had been isntalled. With the padded cover in place, you cannot see the
holes. I'll sell the set, drilled, and powder coated, for $100 plus shipping.

Shipping is probably no more than $10.

      You stated,
"Also, I'm making a fairing to go behind the short stack that should add
      up to
      20 knots!."

That's not bad, but it probably isn't worth the effort for anything less
than 30 knots. Whats the scoop on the hole plug availability and pricing?
What does it fit? Keep us in the "loop".

      Gee Gary,

I just glassed my old exhaust stack hole in. Made a back plate form out of
beer cans. Put plastic tape over it to act as a mold release and laid up
some 3 layers of 9oz bi-directional cloth. Took about 3 hours time.
But then I did build a composite plane once...

Please put me down for 2 of the JATO equipped fairings.;-) I need that extra
      20 knots!

I'm not sure what the 'hole' story is on the hole, just yet. The piece that
I watched Dave making was 7 layers thick. Way overkill. Dave wanted to
make a part that I/we could use to trial fit a few times. There is a good
chance it will need to be custom fitted to Vi's plane. I'll know more once the
part gets here. I'll keepp youall informed.

      Steve,

Good luck getting the ACS control wheel and good luck getting it approved by the
FAA. There was an AD issued recently on Pipers and the Piper owners bought
up the stock on the ACS wheel and as I understand there is no new stock coming.
In Addition, several Piper chat group members mentioned that their FSDO's would
not approve the ACS wheel. Also, it is $197.50 for P/N 05-00965 While the
ACS Bonanza Yoke is $585.5 inc install kit. That is each. You might want to
give ACS a call to verify this before you loose out on Gary's offer...

If someone here does not NEED Gary's yokes I may buy them just 'cause they are
so cheap. I think The fellow in Washington charges $85 per yoke just to drill
      them for mic switches!

      Best Regards,
      Ned
