My wife and I took a short hop last Saturday from Norwood, Ma. To Provincetown, Ma, over Cape Cod Bay. About 30 miles straight across, took maybe 15 minutes each way. The only other way is to drive, at least 2 1/2 hours each way, no traffic. Despite this, I am always asked how I can justify the costs of a personal plane, even my 32-year-old Traveler. Frequently, the question comes from a friend or family member who has a vacation home in Florida, to whom I respond: divide the costs of your vacation home by the number of days you stay there, and you'll probably find you could vacation just as often and stay at the Four Seasons Hotel instead and STILL save a bundle. There's just something about the fun and freedom of your own plane that is it's on reward - even at 5 bucks a gallon. My wife and I plan to move to Fresno within year or so. We've looked at other, shall we say, more aesthetically pleasing areas, but it's hard to beat being 15 minutes from work and home more nights. Of course, the plane is financially unjustifiable and always has been. It comes down to how much pain one is willing to endure at the pump. Gary, I moved to a hangar behind your old one at Fox. Nice to have electric.
