Subject: | Vacuum Pump - How does this happen? |

HI Team:
In the past month I have worked on three vacuum systems. With each vacuum
pump there is a set of instructions that say "clean the tubing so no debris will
enter a gage". My question is this:
If a vacuum pump draws air FROM the canister air filter, through the
instruments and vacuum gage AND pumps the exhaust air out the pump through the
rear
tube ... HOW does derbies manage to go the REVERSE direction from the pump back
to the instruments?

In the past year I have had occasion to have my glareshield out
several times for avionics and electrical work. Every time we put it
back in we have a problem getting the screws into the tinnermans that
tend to move out of line with the holes. Is there any problem with
replacing the tinnermans with rivnuts and using machine screws to
attach the glareshield?
