Spent the better part of Saturday tracking down leaks on my engine. I have
over 2000 hours on it, but it still produces power and flies great. As Mike
Busch on AvWeb states, every hour past TBO your motor still runs is money in
the bank. It just seeps oil from everywhere (which looks like it makes up a
good part of my oil consumption rate...)
One of the larger leaks appears to be originating from the oil cooler,
leaving a pool of oil in the lower cowl behind the left exit ramp, and spots
oil on the tops of wires, hoses, etc below the level of the cooler on that
side of the motor.
So here's the $400 question - what's the best solution that will minimize
downtime? Should I just bite the bullet and buy a new one? Aircraft Spruce
has the Stewart-Warners for the Tiger listed just over $400. What about a
re-core? Best suppliers? Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Mark

I have a 1978 Tiger that had the same problem two years ago. I sent mine to
Performance Aircraft Parts Inc. out of Berryville AR who sent it out to have
repaired. The cost was around 250.00 but they also had a hard time getting
it repaired. Sounds like less money then a new one but you will be down
longer. Chad Miller N28862
