Let's look at my Tiger for a comparison.

(2700 rpm)

an hourly cost, for fuel, of: $39.65/hr
Cruise Speed @ 50% power @ 10,000 feet: 132 knots TAS on 8.2 gph.
(2550 rpm)

=========
So, for roughly 50 to 75 cents per hour operating costs disadvantage, I
can fly about roughly the same or better cruise speed. For a "Price as
tested" difference: $397,000, I can fly at $50.00/hr (for fuel) for
over 7,900 hours. At an average use of 140 hours per year, that's 56
years of flying.
True, I don't have a glass cockpit, leather interior, ice protection,
or even IFR capable. But, then, who cares?
