Not sure how much interest there is in this.
A couple of years ago, I contacted an engineering in LA to look at the crack
ing problem. =C2-He built a finite-element model of the area. =C2-Since
I was so busy with other things, that project was shelved. =C2-
During one of my many conversations with the DER regarding my cowling, I bro
ught up the cracking problem. =C2-There is a structural engineer there who
wanted to look at it. =C2-Bottom line is: =C2-He took all the measureme
nts, lots of pictures, and the FE model from the first guy, and we started r
edesigning the supports (braces, if you will). =C2-I now have an approved
process with completely new braces that are wider and shaped more like the b
ulkhead=C2-(original horizontal support)=C2-at the forward edge of the E
LT tray. =C2-The other major change is, my process uses metal to metal bon
ding epoxy instead of fuel tank sealant to bond the braces in place. =C2-
If there is any interest, the more braces I have made at one time, the cheap
er. =C2-Right now the braces run about $600/set each for a run of 4 sets.
=C2-If I can sell a dozen sets ?????
Oh, one other thing, the DER will only approve the installation if I do it.
=C2-After 4, it will be enough data for an STC. =C2-The STC, however, wo
n't be a blanket STC for just anyone to install. =C2-The DER is reluctant
to let anyone install the braces: the metal to metal bonding process is quit
e sensitive the preparation.
