I was thinking of doing a similar analysis.  I work in an aircraft structures
group.  However, I really didn't have the time.  Is there any word on the types
of loads that would cause the cracking?  We talked about it at work, and the
consensus seem to be a torsional load about the longitudinal axis (twisting of
the fuselage).  Shaking during engine shutdown would do this, but flying in
turbulence or near stall would do this too.  Also heavy use of the rudder.

So, beside the cost of the braces (~$600.00/set), what will be the labor  
cost and downtime?  Approximate, of course.
