Owner is probably used to slamming the canopy shut real hard and has
knocked the hell out of it forcing the coving to spread out...

Thanks for the kudos, everyone.
The latest is that the check is in the mail (not sure how much the
check is).
SC indicated that the plane would be brought back, but didn't say
when.
SC sent pics of the windshield. It looks like the windshield has
settled forward into the coving. Not sure why. When I removed the old
windshield, there was a lot of clay in the area at the front under the
location where the 3 screws go in the front.
The windshield was pretty snug when I installed it. We'll see what
happens then I get the plane back. if I get the plane back.

Hi Gary,
What an asshole! In all of my dealings with you you've been more than
fair; actually, much more than fair. And I've always felt grateful that
it was you who performed all the work. Moreover, there's an invaluable
piece of mind and confidence knowing it was you who did the work.
You're a true gear head! (That's a compliment, by the way...).
I'd have the loser fly up and then you could take a look. It there
are issues or the window settled then fix it at no charge. But I would
make sure that he has the money/check and if it's a check then make him
go to the bank with you when he comes to get the plane. Otherwise, lock
it up in your hanger.
My dad did autoglass for over 50 years and has a fantastic reputation
for his quality of work. People would come from miles away to have work
on their classic and rare cars. He's truly an artisan. And so are you.
If you ever need a referal, don't hesitate to give a potential
customer my number.
Cheers Brother!
Eddie

I would think that just the threat of doing A.would get the thief to
pay his bill....I'd tell him that after his check cleared then you would
be willing to discuss not doing A and perhaps consider doing
repairs......

Punt.....Remove wings skins...take about an hour with a good heat
gun.....install new wing skins....probably take less time than more
scraping and will give plenty of access room to reseal tanks.. Garner
has new wing skins already bent or you can bend your own like this:
http://bd-4.org/wings_steere14.html
and next page
While your at it get STC to put Yankee leading edge on Tiger wing!

Subject: TeamGrumman-List: Fuel tank leak: Update
The most important lesson I've learned on this repair is that the
lo-adhesion sealant, PR 1428, is VERY difficult to remove. It's rubbery
and the surface is slick. The correct sealant, PS 890, will scrape and
tear off in chunks. The 1428 is like silly putty; it'll stretch and
then slip out of the needle nose pliers. So far, I've got 30 hours in
cleaning out the old sealant.
I'm having a helluva time getting the 1428 out from between the spar
and the wing skin. It's globbed in and I can't get it out. The really
bad part is that the 1428 closes off 90% of the gap, lengthwise between
the ribs, between the spar and wing skin. The 1428 completely fills the
gap and is about 1/2 inch thick along the spar.
Any ideas?
I've tried thin scrapers. I can't get the scraper more than about 1/8
inch before the scraper gets stuck.
I tried a hacksaw blade to see if I could cut it down. It won't cut.
I'm going to try dental floss to see if I can cut it away from the
spar.
Safety wire?

An off-the-wall idea: how about a "hot wire" knife like they use to
cut foam? Try it outside the tank first. ;-)
