Nice high ambient conditions for the cooling test. Better than having to c orrect from lower ambient temperatures. yes, but, the carb heat rise test is going to be a lot tougher. =C2-I'd ra ther do the correction for the CHTs. =C2-I know I can pass that test . . . =C2-easily. We will be using a Malibu for the dive test. =C2-I think he'll be surprise d how quickly I can get to 220 mph. =C2- -----Original Message----- From: flyv35b <flyv35b@minetfiber.com> Sent: Sun, 29 Jun 2008 6:32 am Subject: Re: TeamGrumman-List: Cowling Update Nice high ambient conditions for the cooling test.=C2- Better than having to correct from lower ambient temperatures. =C2- Cliff ----- Original Message ----- From: teamgrumman@aol.com Sent: Saturday, June 28, 2008 11:14 PM Subject: TeamGrumman-List: Cowling Update All of the require paperwork is finished and has been accepted by the FAA. Have you checked your allowable play in the elevator trim tab=3F You don't w ant a =22sloppy=22 linkage and tab at that speed! 220 mph is pretty fast, even in a Bonanza. One of my customers just completed the Air Race Classic and placed 14th behi nd a Piper Cherokee 180 and a whole bunch of Cessna 182s. =C2-The handicap speed on the Piper was over 10 knots slower than the Tiger. =C2-Fair enou gh. =C2-But, the handicap speed on the 182s were also in the 10 to 15 knot range slower than the Tiger. =C2- What gives? How is this handicap speed determined? =C2-The Tiger was given a 126 knot handicap. =C2-One of the top 3 182s had a 111 knot handicap. =C2-If thei r winning speed was only 5 knots faster than the Tigers, the 182s will alway s have a 10 knot advantage over a TIger regardless of how you look at it. =C2- Keep in mind, compared to a Tiger, the C-182 has more horsepower, greater ra te of climb, longer range, greater fuel load, and a faster cruise speed. =C2- How is the handicap speed (usually) determined? =C2-
