Wouldn't the flap switch itself be a more likely cause?" Could be but my guess would be the flap motor. Electrical motor has overtemp switch. When they start to wear out they overheat during operation - temp switch cuts off motor. Minutes later, it cools off enough to operate again for a little while anyway. I've had this happen on two different planes. I was able to drop my flaps 2/3rds on base leg. After I turned final, I depressed the switch to drop the last 1/3rd, but nothing h appened. I cycled the switch a couple times, but the flaps would not come down any further. I flipped the switch up, and the flaps started to retract, so I immediately stopped and tried to depress the switch in the down position again, but the flaps would still not come down. I tried a couple times, but no luck. So I kept the flaps where they were until after landing. The flaps retracted fine after landing, but would not come back down on the ground. A local guy believes it to be a problem with the lower limit switch. This is the second time in the last six months this has happened, and the last time the local guy said the same thing, but obviously he did not fix the root cause of the problem. WSY??? What's the most likely culprit? Where should I look first? Where should I look first? > > Thanks, > > Mark > Tiger N1533R > > > -- > Checked by AVG. > 7:40 AM > -- ________________________________ Message 3 _____________________________________ Time: 11:05:03 AM PST US Subject: TeamGrumman-List: Flaps and Fuel gauges From: teamgrumman@aol.com I concur with Cliff. =C2- Open up the back and take a look at all the hardware yourself. =C2-The wir es to the switches are very difficult to get to. =C2-The switches are a pa in in the ass too. =C2-Maybe Kevin will redesign the mechanism and move ev erything toward the middle about 6 inches. =C2-It would sure make working in there easier. =C2- Find the down limit switch. =C2-Sometimes the lever that actuates the swit ch is bent off center. =C2-Be very careful with it. =C2-If you can, have someone try to actuate the flaps. =C2- If everything looks good at the motor and switches, remove the right side of the center console. =C2-Check the wires on the flap switch itself. =C2 - By-the-way, for those of you out there with the AG5B: =C2-The flap limit s witches are all wired backwards from the earlier planes. =C2-This works, b ut, the power and grounds are all messed up. =C2-I have one customer with a 2004 AG5B that had a squealing sound, once-in-a-while, when the flaps were put down. =C2-I rewired it to match the AA5B wiring diagram and the squea ling went away.
