Yes, there have been quite a few with the O-360-A4K engine installed. Some were even done without installing the Tiger center spar. There is an STC available that you can purchase for this conversion but some of the parts r equired, like the airbox, are getting very difficult to find. There have only been about 3 or 4 that I know of that have had a 200 hp ang le valve engine with a constant speed prop installed. There is no multiple STC that you can purchase to do this installation. Of course the RV-6-7-8 or the =22A=22 versions (tricycle gear) are great planes if all you want is a 2 place aircraft. An RV-9A with a 160 hp engine and fixed pitch prop also will make an economical plane with very good performa nce. You have to decide on what your mission is and what you want the plan e to do. The RV's are really in a higher performance category than a Cheet ah or a Tiger and can be purchased from $50K to $100K, depending on the mod el, equipment and condition. An RV-6A is the cheapest and probably the mos t bang for the buck so to speak for a side by side seating configuration. It gets me ther e, but I was wondering if anyone had ever installed a larger engine (0-360 180HP or 200HP) in a Cheetah. I'm trying to decide if I should trade or sell it and buy a RV-6-7-8. From: teamgrumman@aol.com The airbox is rare indeed. =C2-If the airbox were more plentiful, I could put my cowling on the AG5B. =C2- I have looked into having the airbox made. =C2-I need one, preferably a re ally straight one, to disassemble and have tooling made. =C2-I've also loo ked into having it made of fiberglass. =C2-Tooling would be easier. =C2 - The Beech Buccaneer=C2-has an airbox that has been used. =C2-It only has a 3 inch inlet though. =C2-Three inch diameter, 7 sq inches, is fine at s peed. =C2-It's on climb-out that 7 sq inches is marginal. =C2- The airbox and inlet combination on the AG5B is so bad that it isn't worth p ursuing. =C2- The 200 hp engine requires far too many mods to make it worth the aggravatio n. =C2-A parallel valve 180 hp fuel injected engine provides all of the ga ins of the 200 hp and saves 40 lbs. =C2-Port and polish a 180 hp IO360 and you'll have 200+ hp. =C2-All of the existing baffles, engine mounts, and everything else stays common with the O360-A4K. -----Original Message----- From: flyv35b Sent: Tue, 4 Nov 2008 5:25 am Subject: Re: TeamGrumman-List: Larger engine for Cheetah?
