Subject: | AG5B stiff alierons |
I took the entire control system apart; everything attached to the T-Bar.
=C2-Ned, it's a lot more work than you said.
The bearings on the shaft (on the T-Bar) to which the yokes are attached wer
e all gummy and most of the grease was dry and caked. =C2-They were the wo
rse. =C2-The idler gear was stiff but not too bad. =C2-The bearings in t
he gear to which the aileron cables attach was pretty bad too. =C2-I could
barely move the ailerons without the chain on: =C2-i.e., just to move the
gear on its bearings. =C2-It looked like they used AeroShell 22 grease.
=C2-It felt like the=C2-AeroShell 22 grease. =C2-I'm telling you all,
that stuff is crap and should not be used.
After I cleaned all of the old grease out (brake cleaner works great but it'
s a bitch to get in there). =C2-I inspected the parts the best I could, th
en I greased it all with molybdenum grease. =C2-After it was back together
, it was smooth as glass. =C2-
Does anyone know what grease was used on the real TIgers? =C2-
I backed out the weight of the airframe on this 2005 Tiger. =C2-It's almos
t 100 lbs heavier than mine. =C2-
I hope Kevin doesn't insist on the fuselages being bondoed to hide the seams
. =C2- What a waste of time and effort. =C2-Find a paint scheme that hid
es the seams if it's that important. =C2-It didn't seem to hurt the real T
igers any. =C2-
