And now what=99s the =9Cpreferred=9D layout in the day
of glass cockpits? Very hard to standardize and enforce.

Thanks John. I mentioned this to a DAR and told him there is no
specification as to where these instruments had to be. He said, and I
quote, "There is an Advisory Circular that recommends a panel layout for
flight instruments for IFR flight. Any deviation from that would
require a field approval." He couldn't recite the AC. I can't find
one.
Could it be that the preferred 6-pack arrangement has never been
spelled out?

I've been hearing about this regulation for years. Especially after I
installed a flat, one-piece panel in a Tiger and the DAR asked if it met
the requirements of 'an AC.' I've been looking into trying a few
different ideas for an instrument panel so the topic came up again.
I've tried few times, off and on, to find it. No luck. This time I
thought, "why not ask all the brains out there who are always referring
to 'Regulation this' and 'Regulation that.' I'm surprised no one knows
what it is.
Please keep looking and let me know if you have any luck,
thanks
Gary

I believe there are regs for the six pack. Not sure where they would be
though.

There might not be one. No regs on how to lay-out a panel?
