Subject: | Horizontal braces |
I found bent vertical braces in the area in contact with the stub spar that
goes through the fuselage on a Tiger with no other noted damage to anything.
=C2-I cannot imaging how that vertical brace can be bent unless the horiz
ontal twisted so much that it deformed the vertical braces. =C2-
Just a heads up

Could it be a "tail skid touch" landing that
forced the aft fuselage up a little, and the mass
of the horizontal resists it and causes the buckle in the vertical angles?
The damage to mine was similar to your
description - previous owner landings though...:^)

Not the vertical but I saw the horizontal brace cracked.
A fellow Tiger owner on my field was pushing his Tiger into the T-hangar
and struck the hangar with the elevator. He came and got me to see the
damage. The right stabilizer was seperated from the fuselage about an
inch leaving a gap at the leading edge root where the plastic root
fillet usually is up against the fuselage. I held the right stabilizer
at the tip and put a little forward pressure on it and heard a big pop.
The gap was now gone. Further inspection by the A&P found the top lip of
the spar cracked and that is where you could locate the popping sound...
