I'll reproduce it below, maybe you can see them too. Dave -----Original Message----- I changed the formatting on my output. =C2-Does it still show weird char acters? I've had a few recipients of my emails say the output it weird. =C2-I'm not sure what causes it. =C2- Let me know if they are still there. =C2-I'll try another format for the output if that doesn't work. ________________________________ Message 2 _____________________________________ Time: 05:04:32 AM PST US From: linn Subject: Re: TeamGrumman-List: Re: Posting on Team-Grumman Do you speak any other dead languages??? ;-) Go with Western (ISO 8859-1) and see if that helps. Guilty. Sorry, I've been a little overloaded this week. I only use Microsoft products for email. Not because I like them, but that's what the boss provides. What the user sees is a combination of how the sender formats the mail, and how the receiver's email program renders it. You can't do much about the readout. For MS Outlook Express, I've posted a blow-by-blow description of how to change the settings here: http://newlangsyne.com/etc/encoding.pdf It includes screen shots. Linn posted a link with instructions for Thunderbird. If you use Vista, my condolences. What used to be Outlook Express, is now called Windows Mail or something similar. My link will get you through that one. MS-Outlook is similar: Tools >> Options >> Mail Format Select "Plain Text" from the three choices in the Message Format area If you use something else, I don't know what to say. Somewhere there is a menu that leads you to setup options. Find it, and adjust the MIME encoding. * * * Character set has nothing to do with this. * * * ________________________________ Message 4 _____________________________________ Time: 05:09:48 AM PST US From: "David Feinstein" Subject: TeamGrumman-List: Re: way off Grumman related!!! > In my emails that have been forwarded multiple times, each forward > address is contained in it's own frame, and they're nested inside one > another. You can control the "frames" that you add, but the other ones were put there before you got involved. Follow the same steps you used to find your character encoding (several emails in the past two days). On the same dialogue where you change character encoding, you should find an option to "Indent message on reply" or words to that effect. For plain text, that refers to the carets you see in the three lines above. For "rich text" or HTML, the indent is some graphic device like those "frames" - or, usually, a long line to the left of the quoted text. You can get rid of the previous marks if you want to tweak the HTML in your outgoing message. Edit the source code and remove the
tags. If that sentence didn't make sense to you, it's better to grin and bear it. I'm not trying to be smug, just saying it's a real pain in the butt. ________________________________ Message 5 _____________________________________ Time: 05:43:46 AM PST US From: "flyv35b" Subject: Re: TeamGrumman-List: Re: Posting on Team-Grumman I changed the formatting on my output. I agree with the previous message, from a few days ago, that postings which contain a long thread of previous messages and replies make reading the dig est pretty much impossible, so I appreciate it when folks don't send pages of extraneous stuff. Messages with a little history tacked on aren't a big deal, but sometimes it can be pages and pages and tens of pages of old repl ies, and the whole digest can be a hundred pages long. Gary, for some reason, your messages come through strangely. After each s entence, for example,=2 0it always says =22=C2-.=22 So a long mail is a series of sentences, with =C2- after each one. I don't get that from anyone else's messages posted to the list, so it seems to be something in the way your e mail software is configured. (Linn's messages, for example, come through wi thout any strangeness.) I've gotten used to reading around the strange formatting, so it's not a huge problem for me, but since you asked, I thought I'd let you know. No special characters. Sounds like an issue with the receiving email client. Suggest you try using Gmail for your email. You can set up a free account and get all of your email coming to the one Gmail client. The email will be tagged with the appropriate email account (I have 5 different accounts coming to Gmail). Nice thing is you can access it from any computer with web access and the storage capacity for email is enormous.
