Subject: | Re: two-seat weight and balance |
# Any chance someone out there in two-seat land have the front page
# of their original W&B they'd care to send as an attachment?
The original's out of reach at the moment, but here's the information that's
on it (1971 AA-1A):
Basic empty weight 1049# @ 73.69"
Front seat @ 92.50"
Rear seat (oh, right...)
Baggage @120.00" (100# max.)
Fuel @ 84.50" (132# max.)
CG:
aft limit 80.0"
fwd limit
75.0" at 1245#
77.5" at 1430#
78.5" at 1500#
MGW: 1500# normal cat., 1430# utility
I also have empty weights for a couple of AA-1B's but don't know the model
year:
(1) 1091# @ 72.44"
(2) 1070# @ 73.49"
AA-1B aft limit is the same, fwd. limit is simpler:
75.0" at 1300#
78.25" at 1560# (MGW)

Given: AA1X
Basic empty weight 1049# @ 73.69"
Fuel @ 84.50" (132# max.) . . . . . . this tells me the center of
the spar is at 84.5 inches.
Front seat @ 92.50"
Rear seat (oh, right...)
Baggage @120.00" (100# max.)
===============
Given: AA5X
Basic empty weight 1458# @ 83.23"
Fuel @ 94.81" (306# max.)
Front seat @ 90.60"
Rear seat @ 126.0"
Baggage @ 151.00" (120# max.)
Cargo @ 116.4" (340# Max)
Here is what is interesting. The baggage arm (on an AA5X) is behind
what they give for the coat hook: 105.4 inches. If you know the coat
hook, it is right in front of the hat shelf. From my calculations, the
trailing edge of the wing is at 129 inches.
The intercom wiring (Option 1) weighs 5.42 lbs at 131.73 inches. So,
the CG of the intercom wiring is behind the trailing edge of the wing?
And, why would the Cargo arm (116.4 inches) be 10 inches in front of
what would have been the rear seat passengers? The CG of the electric
flaps is 124.4.
The CG for the 2 ash trays is given as 115 inches. So, the ash tray in
the front plus the ash tray in the rear center console has a CG only an
inch in front of the cargo loading?
I'm going to take some measurements today.
