Hi Jamey,
I heard there is a software feature that doesn't let the 530 do what the
430 can do. =C2-Apparently, 530 owners didn't like that feature so they
corrected the software. =C2-It's a free upgrade.

THEN =9CFlight Planning=9D page
(selected with small right knob)
THEN =9CDensity
Alt / TAS / Winds=9D option

As
I remember, there are 3 computation pages in the 530 and there is a select
ion
on one of the pages that says "true airspeed".=C2- You highlight
that line and press "enter"=C2-.
You
then fill in heading, IAS, OAT, Altitude and it gives you the rest....this
from
memory but if you can find the page the rest will be obvious.....

getting True Air Speed on a Garmin 530
=C2-
I've been using and installing the Garmin 430 for years and
I have used the features that give winds and TAS on nearly every flight.
=C2-
=C2-
A few months ago, I was flying a customers plane that had a
530 and when I tried to get winds and TAS, I was unable to get anything bu
t
zeros on the bottom have of the window. =C2-(i.e., the info for winds an
d
TAS)
=C2-
I asked my main avionics man, Jeff Landon, High Desert
Avionics, Lancaster, CA =C2-661-494-8300, and the answer he got from Gar
min
was that a separate air-data-computer is required for the 530.
=C2-
SOOOOO,
=C2-
On another customers plane, again with the 530, I tried to
set up the pages like my 430. =C2-Again, no winds and TAS information.
=C2-I really couldn't find anything to input that would give me the wind
s and
TAS info I was looking for.
=C2-
Any ideas?

Hey Gary,
The function I described definitely exists and works on my 530 and has
since prior to the 530W upgrade. Is this different from the feature
you utilize on the 430?
