I have my iFly 700 attached to a Dillon bracket using a RAM arm and articul ator to get it just right. Photos available upon request. I love the iFly b ut powering the unit is an issue as it has no internal battery. I solved th e problem by having a DC outlet installed next to the mag switch. -----Original Message----- From: owner-teamgrumman-list-server@matronics.com on behalf of Tom Quinn Sent: Mon 9/6/2010 4:14 AM Subject: RE: TeamGrumman-List: Portable GPS Question Have you taken a look at the GPS mounts at www.gpsbracket.com? Hi Tom, please confirm which vents you wish to replace. Windshield defrosters, front seat fresh air vents or rear seat fresh air vents. Fletchair have good reasonably priced, after market, better replacements for the defrosters. Excel-Air Services have their new PMA defrosters available now at $150 a pair and front seat air vents at $250 a pair, check them out at http://www.excelairservices.com/New%20Air%20Vents.htm Now for the really bad news, if its new rear vents that you are after, you had better have deep pockets, they are available, but the last price I had for them was over $200 a piece. No one I know of stocks them, lead time from manufacture is many weeks, so best option is to search ebay or salvaged yards for used ones. I'll second Andy's comments. I too, love my iFly 700. Works great. I'm a Mac guy, and would love to own the iPad, but the iFly was cheaper. I use my old Lowrance AirMap 300 yoke mount. Works great in the Tiger I rent. Surprisingly, it worked great in the Cherokee I rode in today; slower, but still worked fine. I put velcro on the back to mate it up to the Lowrance mount. Might be able to find this mount on eBay. What is wrong with the vents under your yoke? They just pop out. I don't think they are available any more. You can clean them up with a sand blaster. Then, mask and spray them with clear. They look pretty good. ________________________________ From: Tom Quinn <quinn_tom@tqiinc.com> Sent: Mon, September 6, 2010 9:49:30 AM Subject: RE: TeamGrumman-List: Re: Tiger Air Vent Replacement Thanks, They are the front seat fresh air vents just under the yoke. There's no tension on the grills anymore. You open them and they close themselves off again. Wasn't sure how they came off and was afraid I'd break them. I'll pop them off and "eyeball" them to see what I can do to keep them from closing off by themselves. Cheaper than $250 plus shipping. Thanks! Not sure how these pictures will be presented on the mailing list, but probably viewed better on the forum site using link below. The existing vents are held in place by four pegs on each corner which are a snap fit into spring retainers that are a push fit into the fresh airbox. A thin bladed screwdriver should be used to leaver out each corner as per the picture. Care must be taken if you want to remove the vents without snapping off any of the pegs, although chances are if the vent is loose in the airbox that some have already broken off. If any pegs break off in the spring retainers these need removing before trying to remove the retainers from the airbox. Do this by pushing the broken peg into the box, dont try pulling it out. Next using narrow nosed pliers compress the lugs on the retaining springs so that they can be carefully removed from the front of the airbox. The new air vents from Excel are a direct replacement and have pegs which will fit in the existing holes, but are used purely as locators not retainers. On each side of the new vents there are spring lugs that will snap into the sides of the airbox opening. Here is the airbox ready to accept a new EXCEL vent. Kevin What are the odds of getting some symmetric wings made? You know, with fuel tanks in the wing. Keep the outboard panels with the drooped leading edge if necessary for stall quality. In the latest STAR John (Excel Air) advertises his eyeball vents for $80.00 a pair. I was ready to buy, but at $250 a pair? Well, at that price my old vents are looking pretty good, as do the spare vents I have that I liberated from a 72 Dodge Dart (I think) at a junk yard a couple of years ago. Paid 2 bucks a piece for them. Might put them on E-Bay.... John is a nice guy, but $250!!, Glad I bought the defroster vents a few years back a one of the Cedar Key Flyins. Actually it is. Any old shop can repair a Cessna or Piper, but there are very few shops that will even attempt to repair a Grumman. Also the wing skins on a Grumman wrap from the rear spar around the leading edge and to the rear spar again. Whereas other planes skins are more modular and have lap joints. There may be several skins from front to back. Almost have the wife talked into this =85 you know how that goes=85 I do have a question. I=92m in a flying club at Concord, CA, just down the road from Gary. One of the guys just put a significant hole in the leading edge of the wing of our Archer. The FAA threw a fit and wouldn=92t allow a ferry permit so the wing went off on a truck to the shop. So I=92m talking to some of the folks and they tell me It=92s no big deal -- it=92s easy to get a replacement skin for a Cherokee and reskin the wing. Then I ask about the same situation in a Tiger ' and they tell me it is a big deal and I would have to look at junkyards all over the country and buy a wing. Then someone else tells me most shops won=92t work on this because of the bonded construction What=92s the real story -- what would you do if someone knocked a hole in the wing? So the FAA has "helped" us again by making the parts supply chain "safer"? Here is the documentation of how they triple the price of a part with their bleeping rules. I'm glad I bought mine for $80, too. Dean White (Tiger N81166) Edmonds, WA 98026 dmwhite@e3ra.com "In the latest STAR John (Excel Air) advertises his eyeball vents for $80.00 a pair. I was ready to buy, but at $250 a pair? "
