I know that this has most likely been beaten to death but I need help in choosing
a prop...
I had a big ding in my original (63 pitch) Sensenich prop so I bought a new one
(a 62 pitch), however I now have the original one at Sensenich being serviced
as they said that there was plenty of metal in the prop to cut away and straighten
the bad edge (it was only a 1/32 ding and the tip was not touched)...What
I need to know is which is the prefered prop for speed the 62 or the 63 pitch
or is there not much in it either way as I will change to the fastest one and
sell the other.
The interesting thing is that there actually was more metal in the older prop than
the newer one, both wider and longer???...Dick

Go with the 63"
I have a 62" on my O-320 HC and I have no problem with climb on the east
coast.
You have an O-360 so 63" should be NO PROBLEM.

Which prop is better depends on a whole slew of things.
(1) is the engine strong? or is it tired?
(2) Any drag reduction items? Wheel pants? or does it have a bunch of antennas
sticking out?
(3) Ported and polished cylinders?
(4) Is your plane fat? i.e., what is it's empty weight (the real one, not the
one you carry on the weight and balance)
(5) Do you normally fly by yourself?
I've tried everything up to a 69 inch pitch on my plane. It likes a 65.
A 62 prop is pretty good all around. A 63 is a pretty good prop if you have a
strong engine and your plane isn't fat.

The engine is mid time and the lowest compression is 72 (the rest above 75)
(2) Any drag reduction items? Wheel pants? or does it have a bunch of antennas
sticking out?
The usual antennas and wheel pants ...New paint and glass
(3) Ported and polished cylinders?
No, stock
(4) Is your plane fat? i.e., what is it's empty weight (the real one, not the one
you carry on the weight and balance)
Book weights not excessively heavy
(5) Do you normally fly by yourself?
Mostly by myself but 1/2 the time with a co-pilot

Looks like I will put the 63 back on but will this make much difference in ground

If you want more speed at the same rpm I'd go with the 63" pitch as that was
the standard cruise prop. Most typical Tigers can turn 2700 rpm full
throttle down low and even higher up. The 62" pitch will turn 30-40 rpm
more at full throttle but be 2-3 knots slower or thereabouts. And if you
ever take you steps off and go to the flush beacon cap or add a PF exhaust
you will want the higher pitch prop for sure.
