Subject: | Jaguar performance |
Several years ago I figured that Gary's new cowl=2C which I had already bee
n interested in for years=2C could push the performance of my Tiger over th
e hump to reliably make the commute from the Florida panhandle to southern
Maryland in one leg. The numbers after installation showed exactly that=2C
but today I finally flew the flight. KDTS to 2W6 direct for all but a sho
rt vector around the restricted areas at Eglin AFB=2C 685.6nm by the GPS=2C
at 11=2C500 in 4.3. Of course that was wind-driven=2C but the calculation
s show that throttled back toward max range I'd make the no-wind trip with
VFR reserves.
With the Jaguar cowl I consistently see 5 KTAS over the book values and jus
t before descent was showing 142KTAS at 9.7gph at 11=2C500.

Brian,
Thanks for the info. That is pretty consistent with the 5 to 6 knots that Jeff
sees.
During the early flight tests on your plane, circa 2002, I did two back to back
runs at 2725 rpm and averaged 148 knots TAS both times. Typically, the speeds
were in the 145 knot range.
When you get a chance, set up for 130 to 132 knots TAS and then lean for best
lean at around 5,000 feet. I'd be curious about your fuel burn. I was able to
get down to 7.8 to 8.2 gph.
Gary
