This one goes down as some of the all time stupid bits of engineering I've ever
seen.
The ADC oil cooler adapter for an O235-C2C was purposely machined very low in an
area that the oil filter SCREEN housing mounts. There is no reason for this to
be machined so low. None. The screen housing provides over 1/2 inch of
mounting surface area around the screen. The ADC oil cooler adapter was
machined to reduce this area to 1/4 inch for no apparent reason.
The B&C oil filter adapter does not use a cylindrical cavity inside the housing.
It's some sort of modified rectangle that, to some degree, helps in the
machining of the recess inside for the oil temp probe. BUT. It could have been
done differently too. The B&C oil filter adapter also requires the installer
use one of their proprietary gaskets. Why? Because the mounting surface
requires the odd shape.
Both of these parts could have been made to mimic the shape of the original
filter screen housing.
In the pics, the blue part is the oil cooler adapter. The oil filter adapter
was added on. It'll fit in the tight confines of an AA1.
If you can see it, there is a gap at the top of the part.
