Hi Gary, That would be a really cool thing to see. I'm doing well - Ali and I are in Kansas right now to see my family over the Fourth. Ali had never seen the grand canyon, so we flew over on one of the l ow-altitude sightseeing corridors. Today looks like it's going to be the BBQ extravaganza - my brothers have be en smoking all sorts if stuff the last few days. What's new with you? Thanks, Michael Michael W Meyer michael@flightsked.com m: +1 781.248.7550 (sent from my iPhone, please excuse the brevity) On Jun 29, 2011, at 13:56, Gary Vogt <teamgrumman@yahoo.com> wrote: > Hi Mike, > > Long time no see. > > Talking about turbine blades . . . . while going to school at the Von Kar man Institute for Fluid Dynamics in Belgium, we did flow visualization using fine dust particles, smoke, and lasers. However, those turbines are in continuous operation for long periods of time, we're talking about the fine tolerances of turbine assemblies, and it still takes a ship's lifetime to show up. The metallurgy's very different b etween steam turbine blades and our propeller blades, but I still kinda doub t it happens to a noticeable degree given the lack of a high temperature env ironment and relatively low duty cycle of our props. > > Thanks, > Michael > > Michael W Meyer > > michael@flightsked.com > m: +1 781.248.7550 > > (sent from my iPhone, please excuse the brevity) > > On Jun 29, 2011, at 3:59, Bruce Smith <haveblue1@mac.com> wrote: > >> Gary, >> >> No personal experience with this. From: bvnj@yahoo.com
Guys, My Brakett air filter bottom pie pan has several holes in it. Please see the picture. They don't make sense to me because I think that they let unfilt ered air into the carb. Are those holes supposed to be there? Why? A related subject. Is challenger filter installed with pie pans? Does it com e with it's own pans or is one supposed to reuse the original ones? Does any body have experience with challenger on 78 tiger? It looks like it may not b e a good fit: http://m831.photobucket.com/image/improper%20filter%20tiger/airmaster1/Chall enger%20VS%20Brackett%20air%20filter/IMG_3783-1.jpg.html?o=0 Thank you, Boris. Hi Boris, You can get a new cover from Fletcher. It isn't supposed to have those holes. I've seen a lot of weird things. This is just another example of someone who doesn't know what they're doing. As for the Challenger air filter, I tried it on mine. I noticed the CHT/EGT spread was worse with the Challenger. Your mileage may vary. Subject: Jaguar Cowl Rear Baffles question
Hi Gary, I am not sure I am instlling the rear baffles 550400-6 and 550400-3 where they join under the hinge. The original right baffle had a step in it and they both were joined and bolted to the bracket that is attached to the two top bolts of the accessory case.(part 5502012-11). Q 1: The Jaguar Cowl install manual doesn't mention it, but I imagine the the rear baffles are still attached to this bracked, arent' they? Jaguar rear baffles don't have a step so when I try to connect them and attach them to the bracket, I need to bend them, the right one more than the left one. If I do so, they are slanted at an angle in the relationship to the accessory case flange and the right one is bent back, which is probably not good for smooth air flow. Another option would be to make another bracket that would serve as a step, similar to the step in original baffle. Q 2: How have you been installing those baffles, slanted or with another bracket or some other way? Q 3: How much space should there be between the baffles and the hinge horizontally and vertically - 1/2 inch, like everywhere else? Mine have no space right now and I just want to make sure before cutting. Q 4: On the pictures in the manual it looks like your baffles are painted. I am guessing you had mine etched and alodined before you sent them, right? Can I leave them as is or do they have to be painted? What kind of paint? From a can from auto parts store? Thank you, -Boris
