While at OSH, we ran across a vendor who has a newly stc'd =0Aelectronic ig
nition available.=C2- They are hard at work on the adding all =0Athe Grum
man AA1's and AA5's to the the AML.=C2- This seems to be a proven =0Aprod
uct with over 2500 installed in experimental's .
The system =0Akeeps=C2- one of your Mags (for safety & back up) and subst
itutes a =0Apick up sensor in place of the second mag.=C2- You should see
an increase =0Ain efficiency and performance.=C2- Fuel savings should be
in the 10%-15% =0Arange, there will be an increase in usable horsepower an

I have spoken with the President Michael Kobylik and=0A he is eager to work

tems in race =0Acars and have had excellent results.

Electroair, the =9Cfirst to advance ignition=9D, announced toda
y the receipt of the first FAA
Supplement Type Certificate (STC) for a pure electronic general aviation pi
ston engine
ignition system. The initial STC is engine specific for all Lycoming four c
ylinder
engines installed on Cessna Aircraft =93 additional airframe eligibil
ity will be added over
the=0A next few months. This STC allows installation of Electroair=99
s proprietary
computerized ignition system in certificated aircraft.
Significant performance and economy improvements have been documented in us
e of
Electroair=99s ignition systems, over 2,500 of which have been previo
usly installed in
experimental aircraft. With issuance of the FAA STC, virtually all certific
ated general
aviation aircraft will be able to enjoy the power and fuel economy the syst
ems provide.
The Electroair electronic ignition system replaces one magneto with the fol
lowing: an
RPM measurement device, a manifold pressure sensor and a high output coil a
ll
controlled by a sophisticated and versatile controller to advance timing ac
cording to
altitude and provide a significantly hotter, longer duration spark than pre
viously
available. Aircraft spark plugs are approved.
Electroair President, Michael Kobylik said upon receiving the STC,

leadership of the Chicago Small Aircraft Directorate, the FAA provided trem
endous
support and careful guidance in our two-year long testing and documentation
process,
leading to the design approval.=9D.
Industry sources see the very flexible electronic ignition system, perfecte

as part of the answer to changes in future aviation fuel and a way to achie
ve large
improvements in fuel consumption and performance enhancements right now. El

anticipates obtaining STCs for all six cylinder Continental and Lycoming en
gines over
