Subject: | AA-5 Aileron Rigging |
Gents,
After an aileron contacts its down stop, more rotation of the yoke, against
'spring' pressure, increases opposite up aileron travel. Is this normal or
indicative of incorrect rigging?
Control yoke/aileron motion left and right is the the same. Aileron cable
tension is correct and the aircraft flies normally.
Thanks,
Mike

Bob,
I would like a trace of the wing rib. I will reverse engineer as much as I c
an and see if I can find a profile that is close.
We may never know what its exact behavior is, but we can get close. At least
we can get an idea where max L/D is.

4 degrees up from that, and the big drooping front edge in its slickest pro
file. But that must happen down around 100 to 105 knots.

t big camber on top is still cranking pretty good. By this time however, we
have a pretty blunt leading edge that kills a lot of bugs (and I think two h
ummingbirds on the way to Pennsylvania!)

The bolts on the elevator are crowded out. Most likely the right one. Get a -19x
from Garner and a G ream. Getting the ream is more of a challenge.

I found that if I aligned the left elevator tip on the front balance portion with

forward spot adjacent to the HS on the right side. Is this normal or do I need
to get after figuring this out asap. ???????????????? It flys flat and level
with no trim in the alierons buy has a good bit of trim tab bent to the right

Subject: | Split elevator on my plane, with Picture. |
I wanted to start a different thread as I realized this was hijacking the flying
with a level thread that is so interesting in itself. Sorry !!!
Any way I got the tail cone off this evening and looked for looseness, none found
?? I worked the two sides against one another and simply cannot find any movement.
It seems to me that it has always been this way or has twisted over time.
The plane has about 1990 hours on the airframe and no known previous damage
history. I will post a picture below that demonstrates the right side up as
the left is leveled with the HS. Any additional thoughts from anyone on this.
I measured the differential with a digital level on each elevator inboard and
outboard with with a slight up preload on each and the right is .8 degrees off
from the left.

Are the trailing edges of the elevators lined up with each other?

No they are off by the .8 degrees I mentioned as checked with a digital level.
