Winglets??? For a Grumman?
Did you mean wing TIPS, as in the fiberglass ends of the wing? There would be
no Whitcomb Winglets for a certified Grumman. We should be asking YOU about such
things on an experimental.

A while back I was looking for winglets and there was an email thread
that suggested someone had developed some but would require an expensive
STC to make them viable. I'll look through my emails. I too am still
interested - ideally it would be great to know what kind of anticipated
numbers the enhancement would give.

Subject: | Notes on installing the Direct Fire Ignition |
First, I've always been a fan of electronic ignitions. =C2-I looked into
DIS a LOOOOONG time ago. =C2-So, when the time came to install not one, b
ut two, DIS systems, I was kind of anxious to get started. =C2-Especially
since one was a Real Tiger and the other was an AG Tiger.=0A=0AHow long do
es it take: =C2-Realistically, 16-20 hours.=0A=0AWhy? =C2-you ask? =C2
-I=C2-probably=C2-spent at least 4 hours on each plane just looking f
or a place to put all the pieces and trial fitting everything before I dril
led any holes.=0A=0A1) Magneto Timing Housing: =C2-It replaces the right
mag. =C2-That part was pretty easy.=0A=C2- =C2- =C2-However . . . T
he lead (wire connection) on the MTH is about a mile long (18 inches?) and
I needed to find a place=C2-=0A=C2- =C2- =C2-somewhere above the ac
cumulation of oil and dirt to mount it. =C2-=0A=C2- =C2- =C2-Then,
of course, the wiring harness from the Controller is really long for a Grum
man and I wanted it=C2-=0A=C2- =C2- =C2-to be where someone could R
&R the MTH if necessary. =C2-So the connector had to be accessible.=0A=C2
- =C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- =C2-Note: =C2-Best Case. =C2-It would
be a whole lot better to have the connector right on the MTH housing. =C2
-=0A=C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- =C2-
=C2-Worst Case. Limit length of the lead on the MTH to less than 6 inche
s.=0A=0A2) Coil: =C2-Where to put the coil? =C2-Here, there is a differ
ence between the two planes. =C2-=0A=C2- =C2- =C2-AA5B: =C2-On th
e AA5B, the coil can go to the left of center on the firewall near the top.
=C2-=0A=C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- =C2-
=C2-I put it so that the #1 and #3 coil towers straddled the Carb heat ca
ble.=0A=C2- =C2- =C2-AG5B: =C2-There are a lot of wires in the midd
le on the AG. =C2-=0A=C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- =C2
- =C2- =C2-I put the coil under the wires toward the right side of th
e panel.=0A=0A=0A3) Controller: =C2-The installation of the controller an

ll near the top and just under the "U" channel.=0A=C2- =C2- =C2- =C2
- =C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- =C2-I used sheet metal screws into
the firewall. =C2-The unit is light and the screws worked great. =C2-
=0A=C2- =C2- =C2-AG5B: =C2-There are a lot of wires all over the ba
ck of the firewall on the AG. =C2-=0A=C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- =C2-
=C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- =C2-There is literally no free space without
moving something.=C2-=0A=0A=C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- =C2

bove the cabin heat box. =C2-=0A=C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- =C2-
=C2- =C2- =C2- =C2-I had to trim off the bottom edge to keep the c
ontroller low enough to stay away from the controls.=0A=0A=0A3) MAP sensor:
=C2-The installation of the controller and the MAP sensor are also diffe

al screws into the firewall. =C2-The unit is light and the screws worked
great. =C2-=0A=C2- =C2- =C2-AG5B: =C2-Same problem here. =C2-To

=C2- =C2- =C2- =C2-I installed the MAP sensor=C2-about 6 inches

=C2-Note: =C2-The MAP sensor had a rubber hose coming out of it. =C2-
=0A=C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- =C2-
=C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- =C2-Weird if you ask me. =C2-
A metal hose fitting would eliminate one potential leak.=0A=0A4) Harness:
=C2-The harness is just a bunch of loose wires. =C2-There is nothing pr
ofessional looking about it.=0A=C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- =C2-
=C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- On the AG, I was able to use 1/2 inch expando s
leeve and get it over the VERY LARGE connectors.=0A=C2- =C2- =C2- =C2

=0A6) Plug wires: =C2-They are cut to fit. =C2-You'll need to install t

IN THE MIDDLE. =C2-Very bad.=0A=C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- =C2-
=C2- =C2-This makes the nut which you use to tighten onto the plug VER

I am looking to replace the eyebrow lights on my AA5. The current lights lea
ve a lot to be desired. I am interested in the "easybrow" lights made by fre
shaero. http://freshaero.com/easybrowgrumdetail.html
Anyone have any suggestions on the color to chose. They offer red, blue, and
green. I can't decide which color to go with. Everyone thinks red is the be
st for night vision but in reality, there is no one good answer. Does anyone
currently have these, and of so, could you send pictures? I would like to s
ee how the various colors look.
