When he found out how much it would cost to certify (after three years of fighting a losing battle) he tossed it in the corner. [quote] This is what I am interested in. There would be little aggravation apart from getting it South Africa. I recently fitted an 0-360A1AD. Empty weight with the new engine is 1360, and I intend to bring it down a little more (prince prop and spline driven alternator are some of my ideas.) I am also busy with glass panel at the moment (pic attached) crossover exhaust and RV wheelpants. I am slowly fixing her up as she stood idle for 20+ years. I flew about 60 hours before the engine change. The RV-10 fairings look nice. I assume you can get a hydraulic controlled constant speed prop for it. I finished "166" Friday. The owner picked 'er up today. This morning, we took it down to the runup area and, you guessed it, it backfired going to right mag. I tried it several times going from both to Right as quickly as possible. I'd say it backfired about half the time. Going from Left to Right nearly always backfired. It may be that there is enough voltage to light any residual fuel in the exhaust that the Left mag doesn't fire. I don't know. My first thought was to swap left right Mag connections on the switch. Tattoo would help going from both to Right but not from Left back to both since it still needs to go through Right to get there. I'd like to try separate toggles for each mag like on a Citabria. I'd also like to try dual electronic systems to see if it still backfires. The hotter spark may light up all of the residual fuel. By-the-way, I had it leaned all the way. If it were mine, I'd skip the Right mag check. There has to be a problem with 1) the electronic ignition itself, or 2) the ignition switch is faulty somehow. If the backfire is as big as your say, it has to be multiple cylinders worth of gas igniting in the exhaust system > > These things are being installed on a lot of planes and have been on experimentals for a long time. If I don't hear what I want to hear from them or some ideas on what they think it is, Ill call Garner at Fletchair and make plans to ship the fucking thing back. Nowadays it is not really being done any more. There are a few experimental trainers around too. The engine can accept a CSU, and I definetly prefer the RV pants over the originals, even if it is only for the looks. Now how about getting hold of those wingtips?
