Here is my res ponse - I'll chime in here also. Several yrs ago while attending an AOPA Summit in Tampa, one of the seminar s was on cockpit lighting and visual acuity. Since many pilots have some so rt of visual issues at one time or another in their lifetime, I wanted to l earn more as my eyes age. The instructor was a pilot/eye physician. We went thru different color based scenarios in a darkened room. The end result, f rom what I remember, is that most of the pilots in the room choose the gree n lighting...followed by the blue. Red was the least color chosen, and I do nt recall why the doc didnt recommend it, only as a last resort. - So if I was to choose the eyebrow lighting, it would be green. - That would be a great seminar topic at AYA OSH if the doc who presented at AOPA can be found. -Sandy - ________________________________ Message 2 _____________________________________ Time: 06:51:48 AM PST US From: jwellum@AOL.COM Subject: Re: TeamGrumman-List: Control wheel refurb I powder coated mine a charcoal gray that has a greenish tint that matches the interior of our 79 Tiger. The original coating came off easy and I was surprised by how rough the control wheel castings were under the original coating. I smoothed them out and applied more powder than usual to help fill in the imperfections. They turned out nice but some of the pits in the original casting can be seen if you look close. My control w heels are starting to peel and look pretty bad. I have seen several options such as leather covers but wondered if anyone has found a solution that re ally looks good. Also, has anyone ever replaced the lower plastic panel whe re the the rocker switches and throttle are located? How labor intensive is it to replace? Mine is beginning to look really bad and has several cracks .=0A>>=0A>=0A>>=0A>=0A>>=0A>=0A>>=0A>=0A>>=0A>Read this topic online here: =0A>>=0A>=0A>>=0A>http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=371000#3710 00=0A>>=0A>=0A>>=0A>=0A>>=0A>=0A>>=0A>=0A>>=0A>=0A>>=0A>=0A>>=0A>=0A>>=0A> =0A>>=0A>=0A>>=0A>http://www.ma------------&n-- ----------- -------------- ----------&nbs----> http://www.matronics.com/co= =================0A>>=0A>>=0A>>=0A>>=0A=0A_ -======================== ================== ________________________________ Message 14 ____________________________________ Time: 07:17:59 PM PST US From: Gary Vogt Subject: Re: TeamGrumman-List: Shuttle fly-by Don't recall any fuel leaking. -He was in a banked angle to the flight li ne about 1/3 mile away and if I had to guess, he was doing about 300 knots. -Not much faster (or closer) than the planes that go by at Reno.=0A=0A =0A________________________________=0A From: 923te <923te@att.net>=0ATo: "t eamgrumman-list@matronics.com" =0ASent: Tu esday, April 17, 2012 10:52 AM=0ASubject: Re: TeamGrumman-List: Shuttle fly -by=0A =0A=0AGary=0ATell more about the SR71!=0AWas it supersonic at 50'? =0AWas fuel leaking from it or is that a myth?=0ANed=0A=0AOn Apr 17, 2012, at 11:50 AM, Gary Vogt wrote:=0A=0A=0AI worked at t he Air Force Rocket Propulsion Laboratory from 1982 to 1993. -I saw a lot of shuttle landings and passes. -I also got to watch one of the engines being tested. -Yes, it is sad to see that program ending.=0A>=0A>=0A>One of my favorite memories is watching an SR-71 doing a high speed fly-by abou t 50 feet off the ground just before they were retired. -Full after burne r climbout. -At the time, I was working Fight Test on main base Edwards. -I was on the flightline for one of my F-16 programs when the SR-71 went by. -=0A>=0A>=0A>=0A>________________________________=0A> From: Doug Ilg =0A>To: "teamgrumman-list@matronics.com" =0A>Sent: Tuesday, April 17, 2012 7:36 AM=0A>Subject: TeamGrumman-List: Shuttle fly-by=0A> =0A>=0A>I just got down from the roof of the building I work in.- We =0Awatched the Space Shuttle Discovery do its tour of DC atop its 747 =0Acarrier.- It made 2 passes very close to o ur building (we are under the =0Aflight path for National Airport) with a T -38 in trail.- I'd attach a =0Apicture, but we aren't allowed to have cam eras, here.=0A>=0A>=0A>Very cool.- And a bit sad.=0A>=0A>Thought all you aviation junkies might be interested.=0A>-=0A>Doug Ilg=0A>Grumman Tiger N 74818, College Park-Airport (KCGS), Maryland=0A>Challenger II LSS LW (N64 1LG-reserved)-- kit underway at Laurel Suburban (W18)=0A>=0A>=0A>=0A>ht tp://www.matronics.com/Navigator?Tea============= ========== =0A>=0A>=0A>========== =0Acourier new,courier">http://www.matronics.com/Navigator?TeamGrumman-List ======================== ============0Aums.matronics.com">http://forums.matron ics.com=0A===================== ===============0Ahttp://www.matronics.com/contr ibution">http://www.matronics.com/contribution=0A======== ==================== ________________________________ Message 15 ____________________________________ Time: 07:31:36 PM PST US From: Gary Vogt Subject: Re: TeamGrumman-List: Re: Control wheel refurb $320 for the pair. -Wires inside.=0A=0A=0A_______________________________ _=0A From: mbcrisp =0ATo: teamgrumman-list@matronics.c om =0ASent: Tuesday, April 17, 2012 3:52 PM=0ASubject: TeamGrumman-List: Re sp" =0A=0AHow are the wires run? From: Gary L Vogt Dean, Still a few kinks to work out with the wiring. I would recommend installing t he switch on the 2 amp line. Seems to work out well. For a long term solution I'd use two toggles like on a Citabria. Direct cont rol over each mag without thinking too hard about it. I liked the dual toggl es on my Citabria. I would eliminate the key altogether and install a keyed k ill switch that interrupts the Master.
