Looks good. Do you think the strut mount being white will show rust more th
an black? Figuring that if it is removed every annual, it will get scratche
d up a bit from the nuts and bolts being removed and reinstalled?
Did you require it as well, or is that the old harness?

If my "strut mount" were painted on the inside then the strut would NOT fit i
nto it. It's that close. AS I Recall, The maintenance manual says to spray i
t with zinc chromate and assemble wet....
Whoever wrote that never took one apart.....
I'm lucky with WD40 or thread lube or silicone spray on the raw metal.....

Your right about the painting the inside, I was just referring to the outsid
e. The white is such high contrast that it will look worn because the surfa
ce rust will show more than if it was black. The paint will be damaged the f
irst time the strut is serviced. Everything is so clean and new looking, th
at it would be a shame to see the rust around the bolts after the strut is s
erviced. It's good to see another clean firewall on an old plane.

None a that shows outside the cowl.
Mine's white as a cracka and I see no rusty spots;)
But I have repainted it once since I bought it.
It's really really really hard steel and that gives you some time to fix it i
f before it goes beyond the surface if you see it rusten
I had an occasion to try and straighten out the factory bend once.
I think it was about 20 tons we put on the strut. We drew an outline on the f
loor before and placed the strut back into the outline after pressing it. We
gained no visible change....
Anyway, Gary shoots the real Emron and its also really really hard so it pro
bably ain't chipping off....it sure was hard sanding that Emron off the insi
de of my Jag owl...

e is a bracket over it that holds the shocks. -I had that powder coated.
-Plus, I'm not a big believer in removing the strut each year. -On plan
es parked near the coast, I remove them every 4 years. -On planes parked
on the desert, every 7 or 8 years is plenty. -Removing the strut every ye

Oh, I missed part of your question. -All of the wiring was replaced. -T
he old plastic stuff was really dry and brittle. -I joined old to the new
wire and then pulled the new through the harness with the old. -New tefl
on wire is a lot skinnier. -It pulls pretty easily. -Takes two people t

ce of any of this to rust. -It was stripped, sanded, etched with rust con
verter, stripped and sanded again, painted with DuPont 22860 etch primer, p

How did that occur to you to do that?
Was that from upgrading rockets or from rewiring a Corvair for aV8?

I pull the nose strut when I start getting a lot of nicks and scratches on
the strut. This is somewhere every 2 - 4 years. I strip and repaint the s
trut. I clean and tape off the part that goes into the receptacle for the
nose torque tube. I made the mistake of trying to paint the entire strut t
he only first time. I reassemble with LPS-3 and a silicon bead seal. Neve
r had a corrosion issue, or have trouble getting it apart.
