I do like your tip about leaving the flaps down on the ground. It would make it easier to reach the step and less chance of accidentally damaging the flaps. I wonder if this is the same reason I see almost all the RV's with their flaps down in the ramp area. Accidentally stepping on one is very expensive. Once you get used to not needing to avoid stepping on the flap when you get in and out, you'll find it makes a lot of sense.
